morning raga

Morning raga- 2004 is an artistic movie based in a SOuth Indian village in Andhra Pradesh.

It is a scintillatingly realist movie. It reminds us of religion and philosophy. The happy family singing family away to glory is all of a sudden broken apart. Shabana and Vaishnavi get into an accident and Vaishnavi and Shabana’s sons are dead. It shows how mysterious Gods ways are. No matter how one struggles, God is the final judge. One has to believe in God. If God defies, one has to go back to the normal life. Life goes on no matter what happens. A normal healthy person should get back to their life within 10 to 13 days. That is God.

Vaishnavi and shabna are seperated.

Shabana is at her best. She is so individualist and carries herself so well.  She is very pretty and sings well. Music is meditation. She over comes her agony by singing.  John Milton in his ‘Lallagro” portrays a woman who is happy yet frivolous.  The woman is portrayed as a nun and full of pain. She is more aware of the philosophy and its ups and downs than the one is happy. Pain becomes part and parcel 0f the nun and the nun begins to bear it.

When one is sees the serious movie – The Morning Raga, one is reminded of Bhagvat Gita. Lord Krishna says  ‘karmanye vadhu karasthu maha phaleshu kadachana, ma karma phalahethu bhur mate sangosthva akarmanee…  In the above words Krishna says we have a right to perform. That is our duty. The result is God’s wish. Yet one has to go on working and wait for God’s reward.

It is a bilingual movie with telugu and english.  Pinky and Abhinay join the music group. All children in this generation ignore our  deep meditative Indian music and ape the Wesern music and habits. A good contrast between village life and city life. In the village one gets up has a bath and put the kolam at the entrance sqat on the ground eat and sing lovely songs. These things are heartwarming. The lovely greenery is most soothening. Pinkys father is a drunkard, beats up his wife and dies driving after a heavy drink. Though a foriegner she is deeply disturbed. In conclusion the movie shakes you up.

Shabana is simple yet very forceful and clinches the show. She speaks with her eyes. The way she teaches carnatic music shows her greatness. On the whole the most powerful person is Shabana. The audiense miss her when the movie is over. One wants to see more of her. The heroes in the movie are not all that prominent.
