The Smile

Treacherous, these waves,
a hug they do the shore.
After arousing sweet passions,
retreat as a stranger,
just to fool the shore.
She waits and waits
again to be fooled by the same.

Dark was my mind
and i saw images of cheat,
despair and treachery
jazz around me.

Insanity was engulfing me.
Not late, a light flashed upon me.
Oh! it was a smile,
a very sweet smile.
A boy selling shells.
Now, the fresh breeze blew,
a new sky glittered.
He asked me for a shell.
I gave him twice its worth.
I learned to smile
and turned to leave.
A roar I heard.
At my back I saw
the gushing wave.
It held the shore
and promised
again to come.
