It was hard to tell whether it was happiness or relief that was more reflected on the faces as they prepared to leave. But amidst all these smiling faces, one pair of eyes lacked the sparkle as it often stole quick glances over to the door. His heart was not willing to accept the truth his mind has been trying to convince. After hours of waiting, his hearts acceptance came as tears flowed down his pale eyes.
Lying in the hospital bed, he flipped through the pages of his memory to find that fateful stain.
His life was the perfect one anyone would ever wish for, always in the spotlight, surrounded by loving faces. His friends were his everything. They were with him whenever he needed them in his sorrows and his happiness. The time he spent with them made him believe that he was truly gifted.
They even shaped his feelings towards the only girl whom he believed could bring real meaning to his life. He had on several occasions forced himself to listen to their concern over her being his perfect match, given her mediocre complexion and slightly arrogant character. He asked himself several times about the reason why he was in love with her, but he always found the question staring back at him requesting a reply. His doubts had blinded him from seeing her fall apart from his life leaving a gaping hole that he never wanted to be healed.
His body had eventually fallen victim to the tears of his heart. Now after spending weeks in the hospital bed, always watching the clear blue sky through the window, he had never felt alone. His loving family was around him the whole time. And the frequent visits from his friends cheered him up. But it was only when they leave that he really missed them. Slowly their visits became less frequent and though he told himself of their own responsibilities to their life, he couldn’t help but broke down at their absence for an entire week now.
He glanced into the glowing faces of his nieces and nephews as they ran about the room apparently helping in the packing up. But none of it was enough to fill the gaping emptiness he still felt in his heart, weighing him down to impossible depths.
Without waiting for the others he opened the door and got out. Holding onto the side of the wall, he slowly walked forward through the long corridor. His eyes then fell on a figure standing in the way looking at him. In the dim light from the tube above, he saw the drooping eyes and the whimpering lips. They stood there staring at each others eyes and after what felt like forever, she broke down. Tears running down her cheeks she ran forward towards him and embraced him letting the world around them fade away.
