Apparently we Indians just love winter season. For us winter is a delicacy, this is driven by a simple logic that most of the days in India are hot and humid and winter brings new life to us. We love, glow and enjoy this season, but like two sides of a coin winter also brings a few skin problems. Winter bring uncomfortable dryness to the skin of hands, legs and face. It makes our skin dry and tight. Taking care of skin becomes difficult in winter and we all face this problem.
Here are some tips and suggestions that can help you keep your skin healthy and moist throughout the winter.
Moisturize more: Do you use the same moisturizer in winter which you do in summer and spring. If yes, then it’s time to change your moisturizer. As the season changes, so does your moisturizer. In winter get oil based moisturizer and not water based. Oil based moisturizer will create a protective film on your skin and will help in retaining moisture. However, you need to be careful while choosing oil based moisturizer because all oil is not good for face. Try out moisturizer that contains mineral oil, avocado oil, almond oil or primrose oil
Sunscreen: Many people think that sunscreen is jut for summers. This is a misconception. In fact we need sunscreen for winter. Winter sun is known more for damaging skin vis-à-vis summer sun. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen half an hour before going out. If you have plans to stay out longer under the sun then re-apply the lotion after every two hours.
Focus on your hand: Have you ever wondered that why does you hand become so dry as compared to other parts of the body. Actually, the skin of our hand is thinner with fewer oil glands. This means that you have pay special attention to your hand. Keep applying moisturizer on your hand. In case you are going out then wear gloves when you go out, this will keep your hand warm and moist
Don’t wear wet socks and gloves: Wet gloves and socks can cause skin irritation such as itching, sores, and cracking. In some cases it could even lead to eczema.
Pace the peels: If your skin is too dry in winter then it recommended that you should avoid using alcohol based astringent or tonner, masks and harsh peels. Instead get a good cleansing milk or mild tonner with no alcohol.
No super hot bath: I know hoe does it feel to have a bath by hot water. But unfortunately this is not good for our skin. Super hot bath leaves crack in our skin and make it drier. Instead have bath by lukewarm water. If possible put some drops of almond or avocado oil in the water. This will make your skin moist and will add extra glow to your skin.
