bajaj-087Bajaj has finally stop production of Scooter segment, due to thinning demand for it. Bike’s conquering the market and more players jumping in two wheeler band wagon has made Mr Rahul Bajaj a sad person. Though his son has quickly jumped into the competition and started working hard on Bikes and super bikes. Bajaj Chetak no more runs high.

1980’s – I remember it was a craze to own a Bajaj scooter, the prestige and pride was almost like owning a BMW or Audi. There was a 10 yrs waiting list for this pride piece of two wheels. The history was in a single month it had sold 1 lakhs scooters. Chetak was the best machine its seems. There were not much competitors for MrRahul Bajaj few companies like Vijay Super,  Lambreta, and Vespa tried to beat Bajaj. But Mr Bajaj was Hamara Bajaj might be cause of price and usability or Price. I was in School so could not really judge what made this product a super success.

In fact my father was planning to buy one scooter but came back due to long waiting list. Might have been a pride factor for  me to show off. People could not afford the price tag but still manage to get one. Its all hats off to Mr Rahul Bajaj as he made this machine a success. His dedication to make a “MADE IN INDIA” product paid off with these scooters. Since I was a kid I cannot write much about that phase, but looking at the number of scooters running on the road, its was a grand success.

1990’s/2000’s – To join the band wagon I bought Bajaj Chetak with my first job. It was a real fun but bikes had already captured the market for riding a comfort. I got the scooter in one week and got bored in 4 years, since my brother had bought a bike which is far superior that the aging Bajaj. The R&D centre tried various new model’s  in scooters but could not cope with the growing competitors.

More players came with new models of bikes and new generation could not stand scooter for their daily commuting and show off business.Times are changing so are demands of new generation.

But Mr Rajiv Bajaj is no behind and had already started working on super bikes and are a success in this heavy rain fall of bikes. Wish him success.

Well Rajiv had put the end in better words “Scooter is out of market but it cannot be taken out from his father”
