A House warming gift!!

A close friend recently decked up her house affectionately. There were decorative pieces of furniture and furnishings which were done up in the process. With an overabundant number of furniture showrooms having come up in cities, I curiously asked her what made her hire an architect for this job. Anyways she wasn’t a working person, and she could have easily put the onus on herself, surveying these furniture shops and making the entire venture a DIY- Do It Yourself.
But some friends of hers had made a bad propaganda to her about these overtly pricey and exorbitant furniture outlets, by informing her that the pieces of furniture on sale were not at all durable, and that she might find the ready made furniture giving way much too early.
And so she hired this aesthetic architect to do the needful; with carpenters cluttered up in her house for days and weeks and months together, chipping and hammering and creating some exquisite masterpieces for her house. Everything in her house was to be customized. No room for ready made stuff there!
No gain without pain….So she and her family had to survive through the innumerable entries and exits of carpenters and painters and curtain guys and polish guys and wallpaper guys, and glass wallahs, and plywood wallah, so on and so forth….doing rounds of her house every single day, with their ideas and complaints, and raw material.
But in the end, patience pays. Their labour and sweat, and her family’s fortitude brought to life the most adorable furniture.
Everything right from kitchen trolleys, to beds, to wardrobes, to TV unit to computer table was created from the craftsmanship of the carpenters and the ideas and drawings of the aesthetic architect.
The most striking piece of furniture that was done up was her crockery unit, which comfortably rested in the dining area of the house.
A rich, dark mahagony colored finish gave the unit a very subtle luster and a smooth feel. Tinted glass doors and shutters gave that exclusive look to the unit.
Once having visited her house casually, for first time after she was done with all the furniture work, I was absolutely carried away by this masterpiece called crockery unit.
Very elegantly, I opened each and every door and drawer to get a closer view of how it looked from the interior. And I was left dumbfounded!!!
In one drawer was kept her furniture-wiping cloths. In other drawer was reserved for her husband’s knee caps! The third drawer was set aside for the Warranty cards of her hand blender and food processor.
On one side of the unit, as I opened its door, I learnt that the family’s weighing scale was sitting pretty, and the on other side of the unit, as I left it ajar, I could see some cardboard boxes piled up…(It left me to wonder whether a crockery unit was in fact made to place all these items!). …
Thus a posh piece of crockery unit is right in front of you, and once you open it you realize it bears inside everything, except of course crockery!
I didn’t want to sound offensive, but my immediate reaction when I saw this was a soft giggle. Yeah, may be she still has to buy her crockery, since up until then, she had no place to store the stuff, so she might have postponed her purchases. And now that her lavish unit is ready, she might start scouting for crockery.Or may be that the family ran out of budget, with their home décor overindulgence, so they’ve stalled the crockery purchases for some time.
All said and done, instead of getting into the intricacies of the possibilities and probabilities of the matter, one thing was sure—
I definitely had made up my mind there and then as to what I was going to gift her for her house warming party scheduled for the subsequent month….
No prizes for guessing!!!

Aesthtics is one part and utility is other. In an “Efficient” house everything has a right place and everything is in place .This actually cuts out lost time sndf hence efficient.
You can gift her exquisite crokery but meanwhile she should create a storage for the items you mention. And gifting her that will be out of budget.
It is better to categorise the items and provide space for all items eventually.
