I’ve always been intrigued, and at the same time amused by the concept of Dominos effect, though I do keep wondering why the name Dominos effect…How sequentially things work, when one particular something falls and along with it topples all other things lined up one after the other.

In life too, things work that way. A cause and effect relationship prevails in this phenomenon as well. Take the example of the burgeoning ash cloud over Iceland which started off as a stand alone event but then it spread far and wide, so much so that it gripped and affected the air travel across larger part of the globe! Imagine- a thing like a cloud could spread its clout so massively that it would impact so many lives…If this ain’t Dominoes Effect, what is?

Sometimes events, happenings and circumstances in our day to day world aren’t merely stand alone. It is no longer the case like something happens in one remote corner and that’s it. There are always ripple effects and there are thick chances that such occurrences might spread like wildfire and affect larger issues, people, lives etc.

What began as a mere ‘Tweet’ few months back for Shashi Tharoor, then added onto some austerity related move, then moving across to some IPL related occurrence in which he dipped his fingers, and such was the impact of the whole happening, that it spiraled completely against the man, and culminated in his resignation as the minister of state for external affairs. The internal political- apolitical affairs, and whatever-whatever events took shape in such a way that the Dominoes effect spread its impact and ended in the minister’s resignation from the post.

So when one Dominoes falls, it sees to it that the others follow suit!

This runs somewhat parallel to a situation when some people are bent upon thinking like “agar main dooba toh subko leke dooboonga!” So, in place of people, let’s put these dominoes and let’s imagine that this is what goes behind the minds of these dominoes (!) when one falls and makes it a point to see the others lined up, topple too! A strange truth!

The past few days have seen one more such Dominoes effect kind of event take shape. IPL is the case in point. The Kochi team bid has opened fresh controversies surrounding the Indian Premier League. Across channels the only possible news that is being flashed is about the IPL controversy and how the opposition is demanding answers and investigations into the funding of the entire IPL. Imagine- till as recent as last week or so, no one might have dreamt about the turn of events surrounding IPL showdown. And now, the storm is gripping more as owners, stakeholders all are being questioned about the funding. From the view of Dominoes effect, the Kochi bid face off between Modi and Tharoor was the beginning point. This was precisely when the first Dominoes fell, and then what followed, is the roller coaster unfolding of events as we see them developing and evolving today, wherein even some hidden political participation through stakes has been speculated! So IPL hasn’t merely remained a Sporting event. It’s turning out to be a mega money spinner, and it is hard core business too!

So all those of you who believe that events/ occurrences/ happening are stand alone, would now think twice, especially after this fresh insight into the significance of the phenomenon called Dominoes Effect…

As they say, don’t under estimate nothing—not even a dominoes!!
