Crossroads… !

Jiya felt out of the world; finally, everything was moving in the way she always wanted. She forever liked Krish – loved him to be precise, but perhaps the power that is known as almighty had some other plans. They became voyagers of two different streams, diverging from each other. Her destined path kept her at bay, until one day when he was back in her life.

7 years elapsed before he was back – however, things were different as he was married by then. One fine day Jiya surprisingly received a friend request from Krish on a social network site, which she accepted gleefully. He remained like any other friend in Jiya’s friend-list mostly benign, until one day he made his first move when both of them were online at the same time, and from then it all started to roll back. Both lived in two different cities, so they decided to meet when Krish was supposed to visit Delhi for the next time, which was the hometown for both of them and where Jiya was settled.

The time came soon and they met. After the meeting however, Jiya realised that he was a changed man. He was not the same crazy guy whom she loved even though they spent ample intimate moments. She found him to be more matured yet somewhere deep in her heart Jiya still felt that the crazy guy she loved was still alive, buried somewhere beneath the debris of his mellowness.

Two years elapsed like that, by then chatting was notably replaced by calls that they made to each other. They again came closer to each other by each passing day. Jiya however still missed the passion that made her fall for Krish, 7 years back. Soon however everything changed.

One day when Jiya was online and he suddenly pinged her, they resumed their chatting and it almost became a routine to be online at a particular time. Jiya felt happy this time, everything was falling into place, everything was happening in the way she always wanted. Krish started showing his feelings; all his craziness and passion was back. They got very much involved when one day he asked her to send him some of the videos that she recorded on self, where she spoke intimately about him. The file size was huge and she was not being able to send through mail despite persistent effort. That was when all of a sudden Krish called her. She took the call and said, “Sweetie tell me how to minimize these clips?” Krish however to her surprise replied, “What videos?” Jiya replied, “I am asking you about the video you asked me to send. The size of the clip is big and I am not being able to compress it”. Krish replied, “I have no clue about what you are talking! I am calling you almost after a month!” Jiya was surprised on hearing that. She said, “Hey, stop joking na! We have been chatting regularly over a month now for hours everyday and you asked some of my video that I had recorded for you!” Krish however almost gave an impression that he knew nothing about what she was talking. He then asked about the chat id of the person whom Jiya was talking to. Jiya replied, “It is kriish4u and spelt it K – R – double I, S, H”. To her astonishment Krish promptly said, “No, that’s not my id. My id is krish4u. I don’t have that extra I in my id; you must have been chatting to someone else”. Jiya became numb; she disconnected the call and was dumbstruck unable to move or react.

After couple of days when she cooled down, she started to think over the whole episode. Something bothered her from within; she kept on asking herself that how come some other guy with a similar id knew so much about their relation. Suddenly in a flash, she recalled that the guy on chat said her a few things which happened when she met Krish in Delhi and those were such incidents which were impossible for a third person even to guess! Her head started to spin and within seconds the world around her became dark as she fainted.

She regained her consciousness almost after 10 min.  She then knew what was wrong; she stood up on her trembling legs, walked slowly to her bedroom, booted her laptop, and started mailing Krish.

Krish, I am shattered after all that has happened. I guess now it is tougher for me to start from scratch yet again, as you will always remind me of my mistakes. I am sure that I know who that other guy is. Who could know about all those secrets and intimate hours we shared last time when we met in Delhi? It cannot be such a big coincident that you both share such similar ids. I frankly do not know why you came back into my life and why you did all this to me! I am just ruined. This relationship is over now; perhaps that will not even bother you but it is for sure that never in my life I can trust anyone as deeply as I had trusted you. Because you have taught me the biggest lesson of my life – trust is meant to be broken!

Answer me, God!

One incident took away almost everything from my world. Aayush, my younger son was only 4 months old then; I could have never heard the word “mamma” from him  neither would I knew how well my elder son, Aryan could sing or how handsome he looks in his all white cricketing attire. It all happened little more than a year back but it is still so vivid in my mind as if it happened just a week before. I am writing this on the eve of my birthday, thanks to the saviour for he gave me an opportunity to celebrate my birthday this year with my family.

We met with a  road accident when we were coming back from Pondicherry to Chennai after spending a superb holiday. Our red car, as Aryan recalls, “Papa’s red car fell and broke into pieces so papa bought a big black car.” Our car was rammed by a xylo from behind and the world became darkness to me.

When I was back to my senses, a month had passed and I was still in the hospital with a severe head injury. The worst thing that happened during this accident was that I suffered from retrograde amnesia and lost my last one-year memory. Due to that, I even forgot my younger son, since he was only 4 months then. Still, I keep on urging everyone individually, not to disclose this to him when he grows up. He will be very hurt when he will know his mother did not remember him. Many more things happened in that one-month period when I was in the hospital, but I was simply clueless.

Finally, one day I was released from the hospital, still on a prescription to continue my high dose medicines for an indefinite time. One day I was just lying in my bed, and found my aunt’s digital camera. She came down from Kolkata during those wretched days to help us. I took the camera and started browsing the pics in it. I saw the first pic, and then the second and then as I pressed the next button, the third pic came up. I stared at the picture blankly. It was Aayush’s pic, with one of his leg wrapped with a white plaster. I immediately ran to my hubby to enquire further. He didn’t hide a bit and told me Aayush fractured his leg during the accident. If that was not all, the fracture got detected after a couple of days when the leg started to swell. Poor Aayush underwent a massive pain for those two days.  In addition, my elder son, Aryan who was only 3 and half years then, broke his left collarbone and was in trauma since he was the only one who saw the whole thing. I became numb and only my tears, which do not follow any rules, continued to roll down my cheek. He also said that every night both the kids kept on crying. The younger one tried to pronounce “mamma” and kept on crying and the elder one, kept on asking everyone when his mother will come back to him.

For better care, my hubby sent me to my mothers place to Kolkata after a few days post my return from the hospital. During that stay, I would ask my mother about all that happened when I was not in my senses. She would always start her narration with Anirban, my hubby, how he took care of me. He was badly injured too in the accident, 21 stitches in his head and with a broken shoulder, still he spent all the nights in the hospital sitting next to me. His routine was somewhat like this; he joined his office few days after the accident – he would go to his office in the morning, return by 5 pm, then feed and make Aryan sleep (He was not allowing anyone to feed him and making him sleep).  After Aryan slept, hubby would have his dinner and go to the hospital with my dinner. He would feed me and then used to sit the whole night awake next to my bed and the next day morning again the routine continued…. I always love my hubby a lot but after hearing all this from my mother, that love increased manifolds and the respect I had for him increased too. He too was badly injured and required proper rest after the accident, but due to his commitments then he did not get any rest and now he is suffering from the side effects. 6 months after the accident, he started getting tremendous back pain, for which he still have sleepless nights. After a check up from the doctor, we came to know during the accident, he badly hurt his back, if he would have taken proper rest then after the accident, now he would not suffer from the side affects. I am very lucky to have him as my best half; he showed me what life is and where happiness lies.

I had no clue what my parents went through as i am their only daughter. Few months back when I was visiting  my aunt, the topic reappeared. She disclosed that my mother kept fasting because I could not eat properly when I was in the hospital. She used to tell, “I will leave my fasting only when my daughter starts eating normal diet.” ‘Hat’s off to you maa, you have shown me what mothers are for and thanks baba for your support.I know you too went through a lot of pain !”

A year flew by but the stigma of the incidence is still crystal-clear in my mind. Very frequently, I get the memories flushing my mind and I always ask with moist eyes – ‘why it was me and my family, who had to experience such a horrible fate.’ This is the only question that I have for Him, the power known as God!

Hiding tears in the rain !!

Jiya looked towards the lessening raindrops through the glass portico of the taxi. Rain was always her obsession; she could vividly associate her with it. Free flowing, charming and comforting; just like she was. She was completely lost witnessing the beauty of the shower when she suddenly saw the silver lining of distant thunder flashing at the horizon and the cracking sound followed soon, which evaporated her stupor. She looked towards the other corner of the backseat and found Amit too was looking towards the heavens through the portico. Jiya however was unable to deduce whether he too was absorbed in the beauty of the downpour or he was lost into someplace else within the dark distant sky.  Amit was the special one in her life; more prized than even whom everyone else thought to be the precious one. She shared a unique relationship, a special bond with him and the attraction of that bond was fatal. She always wanted to be alone with Amit for hours on such a rainy day. She had always canvassed a very sweet and colorful picture of such an occurrence and became happy every time she thought of it. May be God too nodded in approval as on that very day there was rain and she was all alone with Amit in a taxi zapping through the deserted highway towards the airport.

But was she happy? She looked towards the dribble on the wind screen and realized there was a nonstop deluge from her own drooling eyes. ‘The end is near,’ she thought – she was breaking up with Amit and she was into the last hour of their relationship and after that everything would be over. Jiya again looked towards Amit, expecting him to turn towards her and witness her dripping eyes. But not even for a second he took his eyes off the window. Jiya sighed and turned back towards the rain and recalled the rainy day when she first met Amit, exactly a year back.

That day Jiya came to airport to see off Akash, her fiancée, who was returning to the US for a year’s assignment. Their engagement happened a few days back, when Akash came down from Los Angeles, to attend the same. It was an arranged alliance; Akash’s family was a distant relative of Jiya’s father’s friend Mr. Gupta and in fact Gupta uncle was over joyous when the alliance matured claiming to be the chief patron and asking for a mega treat from both the parties. Jiya’s friends were not convinced though; not that Akash was a bad choice. He was an established management professional in one of the leading IT organizations of the world drawing such a hefty paycheck every month, which no one in India could ever imagine. He was good looking, sharp, trim and charming. But he only talked business; there was not even a hint of romanticism in his words as he already started planning for their honeymoon trip to make sure the cost was optimized! This is what bothered Jiya’s friends; they knew even if Jiya was apparently a timid girl but in her heart she was born romantic. Her bohemian mind was often wanderlust, travelling through the streets of the world of utopia. So it was an apparent risk of conflict when such a dreamer lands in the rough surfaces of reality, which is what Akash believed in. No wonder within that brief spell itself, Jiya understood that the chosen ‘prince charming’ was far from what she had expected; he did not believe in horse but horse power or never pondered if the streets of heaven were made of gold, rather he was more interested to get wrapped by gold. The color of his world was not passionate but strictly monitory. So when Akash was heading back to the US, Jiya wasn’t much bothered, she was worried that what will happen after he returns. She went to the airport alone to see off Akash, the way he wanted as he wanted to discuss important decisions to take post marriage, which no wonder were as stale as Akash’s priorities were.

Jiya did not even wait for a second after Akash passed through the security area. It was a late evening flight and the roads were deserted thanks to steady downpour. Jiya was stranded as there were no cabs and the handful ones that passed by had passengers already. She was desperate for a lift and tried to stop each and every cab that was passing by. It was all in vain and when the frustrated Jiya almost lost all hopes (cursing Akash in her mind), a taxi braked just in front of her. The backdoor opened and she saw a guy there waving towards her to step in. Jiya was skeptic and was not able to take a quick call on whether it would be safe to travel with a stranger alone in such a drenched state and that too that late in the evening. She stood there numb, when she heard, ‘Come in ma’am. Although I envy you for being so lucky to embrace these beautiful falling raindrops; but too much of it might be injurious to you considering the time and the space! And anyways I am not a carnivorous who can harm you, so don’t ponder, come in and be my guest.’ The words were enough for Jiya to finalize her mind. She chortled sweetly and got into the backseat. Within five more minutes she came to know that the person who impressed him on first sight was Amit Sharma.

Jiya was more than impressed with Amit during the first day itself; she discovered that Amit has an in and out romantic mind, he was creative, he was original and he valued relationship over wealth. By the time she got down at her place, they had already exchanged their phone numbers, email addresses and chat ids. Then started the saga, when Jiya’s day started by reading a sweet mail from Amit, followed by day long text messages which were beyond the cliché forward stuff but rather creative, innovative and romantic. Then there used to be quite a few phone calls that both of them made to each other, which slowly but steadily turned the wheel of fortune. They used to do late night chats, which started off normally but intensified multifold within the next couple of months. They used to share very personal stuff with each other and without knowing they crossed the classified boundaries. Jiya realized that Amit was the person he always dreamt about and not someone like Akash. She was astonished to spot the differences between the two even if they had near similar profession. She was lost in love with Amit and was searching desperately for a remote control which might rewind her life to the engagement date where she could refuse Akash and embrace Amit. However somehow she never mentioned about Akash or about her engagement to Amit; perhaps she was insecure!

Amit on the other hand was drenched deeply in love to Jiya. He too found a perfect companion in her; who would understand his passion and craze and also compliment him in each and everything he did. He proposed Jiya after ten months of courtship, in his own innovative way by gifting twenty three love jingles written for her on equal number of red rose petals on her twenty-third birthday. Jiya was overwhelmed; head over heels when she saw the gifts and was in no state to say anything. It was raining outside and sometimes there was the silver lining of distant thunder flashing at the horizon and the cracking sound followed. Amit took her silence as acceptance and sealed his proposal with a passionate smooch. The raindrops, the cracking sound and their closeness turned them on and what followed although was unexpectedly premature but neither of them had any powers to stop it happening. As the intensity of the rain got transformed into a storm, their passion also broke all barriers like a twister demolishing that comes in its way.

After that evening Jiya decided that Akash has to go from her life as she was completely lost into Amit. She decided to call off the engagement and although she knew by doing that her parents might face embarrassment (especially from the over enthusiastic Gupta uncle), yet she decided to execute the ultimate. Akash was nonexistent in her mind; who spoke  to her lesser than five times in ten months and every time they spoke it became a monologue as Akash tried to explain monitory benefits towards a few decisions he has taken and Jiya continued to dream about Amit. Jiya however decided to speak to Amit first before rejecting Akash as she felt it was then time to let Amit know about her alliance and engagement.

She revealed everything to Amit, holding his palm into her seated at their favorite lake front spot. Jiya noticed a complete desolated expression in Amit’s eyes; she was afraid perhaps witnessing to see the ruins of their dreams in Amit’s eyes. He left without saying a word and then did not contact her for almost a month. Meanwhile Jiya learnt that Akash was returning soon, so she asked Amit to meet her to arrive at a final decision. During the meeting Amit accused her for being completely dishonest to him and complained that she was playing with two lives. To him it was a sin from her end to have even encouraged Amit when she was already fiancée of Akash. He was shameful about the close moments they spent and guilty to have ruined Akash’s life by committing the eternal sin during her birthday. Jiya tried her best to make her case convincing but Amit was not in a mood to listen to anything. He broke the relation and left. After a few days he informed that he was relocating to a different city as Jiya’s memories all over the city was haunting him. Jiya requested him to take her as his companion for this one last trip on his way to airport. Amit was silent and finally granted the prayer.

Jiya came back to her senses as the cab driver honked at a careless guy running towards the airport gate with a luggage trolley. ‘So here we are; it’s all going to end now,’ she thought and watched Amit paying the driver his dues. They went out in the drizzle, walked towards the airport gate, side by side but without speaking even a word. ‘Amit, can’t we think it over again?’ Jiya whispered but there was no reaction from the man. He was about to pass the security cordon when suddenly Jiya clasped his palm and pleaded, ‘won’t you hug your sweety, for one last time?’ Amit released his hand and said, ‘It’s all over Jiya. Like a dead man a dead relationship never becomes alive again. Go home, my sweety is no more!’ He picked up his bag and took long strides towards the entrance. Jiya waited patiently anticipating Amit to turn back atleast once towards her. He passed the security gate but never looked back. He paused briefly before entering the security cordon. Jiya’s heart skipped a beat still hopeful that Amit to turn back finally. But it was not to happen; Amit took out the boarding pass from his pocket, displayed that to the guard and went in. Jiya looked on dejected; her heart was about to burst in pain as the last glimpse of Amit was gone. She stood there heads down, controlling her tears with a vicious effort. Suddenly she felt a tap on her shoulder. ‘I knew Amit will return,’ Jiya interpreted and turned back with a beam on her face. She was flabbergasted to see Akash, not Amit standing right in front of her. ‘What a pleasant surprise, honey. I never thought you will astonish me like this,’ Akash chortled. Jiya instantly remembered that indeed that was the day when Akash was supposed to return. She improvised promptly and said, ‘I was here for my life and I have found out where my real life is!’

True – Lies!

At last she was able to select a gift after an hour of startling window shopping. However she was not sure whether he will like it or not.  With fluttering butterflies in her stomach, she went to the park, where finally they were destined to meet after 3 long years.

She got married to Abhi couple of years back. Not that she was head over heels about that, yet her life maintained status quo until one day Karan came back. Karan was her boyfriend for a decent period during her pink age but due to family constraints they were compelled to become travelers of two paths diverged. It was extremely difficult for her, Jiya, to forget Karan, thanks to those wonderfully passionate and intimate moments they shared during the purple patch of their relationship. Within a year’s time Jiya had to prepare herself to tie the knot with the “most eligible one” chosen and approved by her parents, who wanted her to settle down.

Jiya with time compromised with the situation and slowly became involved in her life post marriage. Abhi, her husband proved to be a really caring and loving man. However Jiya could never love him as she did love Karan. Yet the life was smooth; her home, a caring husband in Abhi and her office became her life. One day, a friend from Jiya’s office wanted her to take a peek at  her would be husband as she took out a photo from her purse and handed it over to Jiya. She cared for a glimpse and instantly froze dumbstruck recognizing the person in the photo. Needless to mention, it was Karan. Her life took a U turn when she and Karan came across each other in the birthday party of their common connection. From then Karan and Jiya stayed connected through mails, late night chats and calls. Jiya noticed that her suppressed emotions, feelings were oozing with passion. She again started to build castles in the air and the same feeling of floating on to cloud nine resumed. One day Karan asked her out, “Let’s meet sweets!”  She was excited to hear the word sweets, her pet name given by Karan when they first time acknowledged their affair. Jiya was very excited and gleefully accepted the proposal; since then she started to paint the city in the color of her passion.

Karan came to the park after almost an hour past the scheduled meeting time. Jiya had a long day at office, and then she went shopping to pick the best gift for him. Even though she was exhausted, she waited for him to come, deeply lost into her past;  images came flashing into her mind one after the other; each one equally romantic and passionate. It was getting late but she hardly minded as she was in no hurry to return home. She desperately wanted to be with Karan as long as possible, even for the entire night as Abhi was not in town. She was still engulfed into her adventurous thoughts, virtually feeling Karan’s presence; his touch and kisses all over like he used to do. “Indeed he was the king of good times,” Jiya thought and chuckled in her mind. Suddenly she felt a tap on her shoulder, she turned back and it was Karan.

Karan said, “Hey sweets; I got stuck in an urgent official work!” Jiya shrugged and gave an expression to suggest that it was fine. They exchanged a quick hug and then they both walked  inside the park in quest of an isolated place and sat side by side when they found one. It was getting dark to darker and Jiya was in anticipation that something might happen soon. Suddenly Karan wrapped his left arm around her shoulder and lifted her chin with his right hand and lowered his face. They were almost within kissing distance when Jiya closed her eyes, her cerise lips trembling in fervor urging to get locked by his lips. Moments passed nothing happened; Jiya opened her eyes and saw Karan staring at her. “Still mesmerized by my beauty,” Jiya thought looking at Karan and broke into a sweet mirth. “Hey, what are you looking at, so intensely?”asked Jiya. Karan did not answer but to her surprise came up with the most unexpected query, “Hey what you like about Abhi?”

Jiya was hit by a bulldozer. She did not know how to react to this. However she recovered her composure and promptly came up with the truthful answer. “Abhi is a very handsome and very good by heart,” she commented. “I am not claiming that he is a poster boy of any sorts but he indeed has a pleasing personality; everyone around him is very fond of him thanks to his versatile talents and extraordinary IQ. He has done a lot for me and genuinely loves me.” Karan did not show any reaction and swayed away from her. Jiya was wondering what will happen next when Karan suddenly commented, “Sweets you have lost your charm. You looked far more ravishing before marriage, when I was charming you.” Jiya was utterly confused upon hearing that and thought how someone’s look can change so drastically with time! She still had the same eyes, same nose, same face and the same crimson lips. One can either lose or gain weight and that can only make the difference, if at all. In Jiya’s case even that was not true as she was still equally appealing, which she knew by seeing the love in Abhi’s eyes and lust in the eyes of quite a few others.

Jiya said to Karan that she had bought a gift for him to celebrate their reunion after 3 long years. Karan however surprised her by saying that he cannot take it. He further clarified that he was in no mood to complicate things by doing this. Jiya was visibly upset but it seemed nothing bothered Karan. After a few minutes however Karan suddenly asked Jiya to show the gift to him. Jiya sighed in relief and thought finally things might turn her way and handed over the packet to him. Karan opened the gift wrap and found a branded watch in there. He took time to examine it very minutely and then handed it back to Jiya and said, “I told you sweets I simply cannot take it. Maybe you should give it to any of your cousins!” Jiya was completely shattered and felt a valiant slap of insult on her face. She stood up to leave and said, “I guess this relation will not work out,so lets stop being in touch!” Jiya was astonished to spot Karan’s indifference and his passive agreement to the proposal even without protest. Jiya walked out of the park and she threw  Karan out from her life as she headed home, confused, rattled and with a bleeding heart.

That night her eyes poured and she did not even attempt to cease the flow of tears down her cheek. She felt remorse for wasting couple of months for Karan, who never seemed to have any feeling left for her. She felt terrible for being unfaithful to Abhi, the person for whom Jiya was the world. She became depressed acknowledging that she was running behind a glittering image of lie at the expense of the eternal truth.

Next day when Abhi was back home, Jiya went up to him and hugged him tight and whispered in his ears, “I am sorry honey, I am all yours; I love you Abhi, you are the best part of me”. Abhi still in her embrace felt that she was sobbing. He kissed on her forehead and asked, “Hey what happened all of a sudden?” Jiya did not reply but provided an enigmatic smile almost saying, “How does it matter?” She came closer to him and stood on his toes. Instantly their lips locked and it remained locked for quite a while … may be till eternity!

Come on, Everything is not possible!

Raindrops were caressing her face and were giving her the ultimate happiness and pleasure, as Jiya drove past one more hairpin bend. It was drizzling and she enjoyed every single drop touching her body. Jiya was driving her scooty and Vicky was sitting behind her and was enjoying the strands of Jiya’s silky hair, playing with his face.

Jiya and Vicky had a brief courtship and about 2 weeks back they finally tied the knot. They were residing in Mumbai and were off to Khandala for their honeymoon. They had just entered the ghat road when all of a sudden to their pleasure it started to drizzle. Jiya loved driving her scooty and she continued to drive through the ghat roads as the drizzle turned into a heavy downpour. They were all wet and looked out for a shelter, but it was hard to find one on the expressway. Jiya slowed down and both of them looked here and there in quest for a shelter and at the following hairpin bend, Jiya missed to spot of a speeding Xylo heading from the opposite direction; within seconds, the Xylo rammed the scooty head on.

Jiya came back to her senses after 10 days and found herself in the hospital bed with tubes connected all over her body. Jiya’s mom was standing beside her with teary eyes. Jiya asked her mom, “Mom? Why am I here? What has happened to me?”Her mom said, “Hail the almighty! You have recognized me Jiya!”

“Am I not supposed to remember you?” Jia asked in a tired tone.

“You had a severe head injury as you met with an accident on the way to Khandala, dear,” cried her mom. “The doctor was not sure if you will remember anyone of us at all! It is only God’s grace that you survived even after such a severe accident and that too on your honeymoon trip!”

“Honeymoon? Mine? What rubbish! When the hell did I get married?” Jiya asked in a confused tone. Her mother gave a flabbergasted look, within moments her eyes were moist, and she broke down into tears.

It was almost 2 weeks; Jiya was still on the hospital bed but to Jiya’s mom astonishment Jiya never asked her about Vicky. After a week, Jiya was transferred to a cabin. Jiya’s mom was on a call and was standing by the window in Jiya’s cabin, when a tall, fair, and handsome guy entered the cabin with an arm sling around his neck. He came up to Jiya and asked, “How are you feeling now?”

Jiya looked at him blankly and in the meantime, Jiya’s mom was back. She slowly said, “Who is this Jiya? Can’t you recognise him? He is Vicky, your husband!”

Vicky took his mother-in-law in the corner and said, “Mom, I just had a talk with the doctors, they said Jiya was badly hurt in her head and as a result she has gone into a state of anterograde amnesia; but doctor said within a year or so hopefully she will be fine,” he concluded with moist eyes.

“What does than mean, beta?” asked the anxious mom.

“Well whatever I understood from their conversation, it means that she is suffering from short term memory loss and all happenings that occurred during the last year or so in her life have completely got erased.”

Jiya’s mom felt almost hysteric; with immense effort she tried to control herself and spoke, “How are you now beta?”

Vicky replied, “Mom I am fine now. I just broke my hand in the accident. I flew off during the impact and fell on a big block of stone. The doctors have plastered it and asked me to take rest as much as possible and since you are here with Jiya, I usually come in the evenings to see her and take updates from doctors,” he paused. “Jiya was the prime victim. She was very badly injured. After the accident when I was back to my senses and found my face was covered with blood but Jiya was not responding to anything. People there had already called for an ambulance and we both came here immediately after it arrived.”

Everyday evening Vicky came to Jiya with a hope that she will recognise him but that never happened. Everyday whenever he entered Jiya’s cabin, she blankly looked at him. A couple of week later doctor said to Vicky, “look we tried our level best; everything is not possible to get back in your life, once lost. Surely, you people are blessed ones, so you are still alive after such a fatal accident. You can take Jiya home, but without fail continue the medicines. If you notice any degradation or progress, please do inform me, and bring her for a check-up.”

Vicky assumed that once Jiya comes home, seeing all know things, she might get back the memory. However, there was no change after Jiya came back to her house. She used to stay quiet and most of the time she would stand by the window and looked out. Vicky used to show her their pictures together, even the marriage DVD but there was no change. Vicky took her to the restaurant she liked, bought her the things she liked but all in vain. They occupied separate rooms even as she refused to believe that she was married to him.

One night it was raining heavily, in the midnight, Jiya woke up after hearing a blistering noise of thunder. She got down from her bed, walked to the window, and looked outside. Meanwhile, Vicky came to Jiya’s room to check if everything was fine or not; his eyes soon caught Jiya by the window; he stared at her and he was nostalgic.

Memories started to flow – how they enjoyed each other’s company when they were in during their courtship. They both loved to have golgappa at the chowpatty and then a hot cup of tea from Ramu mama’s shack on the beach. He recalled how much Jiya loved walking in the rain and always forced him to walk with her.

Jiya by then turned and walked up to the bed, Vicky was back to his senses, and he closed the door and went back to his room. The next day Vicky left for an important official trip to Chennai for a month so he asked his mother-in-law to be with Jiya.

The month just flew by; it was time for Vicky’s return. He was optimistic that this time Jiya would recognise him for sure and welcome him back with a warm hug. When he rang the bell of his house it was his mother-in-law who opened the door. Vicky entered and saw Jiya was sitting on the sofa with a newspaper in her hand but staring at him. Vicky anticipated a miracle but she didn’t show any reaction, took her eyes off him.Vicky understood, and slowly went to his room. Soon his mother-in-law came to his room and said, “Vicky can you take Jiya to the doctor this evening? A month has passed but she is showing no improvement”. He took her to the doctor that evening and after a MRI scan, the doctor said, “Vicky, the blood clots are still there and hence not of much improvement. Hopefully it will slowly get dissolved but may take another couple of years!”

Since then five more years had passed by; everything still remains the same. Every morning Vicky wakes up with the hope that the sunshine of the new dawn will drive away the gloomy darkness of their life. He still prays looking at her blank eyes that they shall overcome the toughest test of their lives some day, when he dreams of the eon of their togetherness and the opportunity for a fresh start to a life personified for both of them; rediscover their togetherness all over again.

I wish I was your lover…!!

“Go up to that handsome hunk and talk to him; you always claim that you can charm even a complete stranger, but I know you can’t do it,” Sonam challenged Jiya, “I am damn sure that the guy won’t give any weight to you; best of luck girl, go try your luck!”. The place was Mumbai and they were inside a Ganapati puja pandal amidst lots of people and crowd. Jiya immediately was on her feet, she smartly walked up to a group of boys sitting diagonally opposite to the place where they were sitting. Jiya went to the group and said, “Hey guys I lost my purse and I need your help to find it!” A handsome guy stood up and came to Jiya and said, “Where were you  sitting? I guess we first need to search it there.” He added looking at his friends, “you guys enjoy; I will take care of this!” Jiya immediately thought that she won the challenge and she was so happy that she could not stop smiling. The guy asked her, “Hey gorgeous, I am Amit and what’s your name?”

“I am Jiya,” she replied. They both walked up to the place where Jiya was sitting with her friends, her friends were spellbound to see the guy with Jiya coming towards them. Amit immediately after reaching the spot started searching for the purse. But he could not find it and said,” I and my friends will try to find it from the other corners of the pandal; give me your contact number, if I find it I will inform you.” Jiya gave him her mobile number and they left. That night Jiya was thinking about the incident that happened and she started feeling guilty. Just for the challenge, she went up to Amit and said she lost her purse and now Amit and his friends were searching for the purse desperately. But Jiya didn’t take Amit’s number so she was unable to contact him; she had to wait hoping Amit to contact her.

A week went by and Jiya lost all hope for a call from Amit, but she couldn’t stop feeling bad and guilty, it was hurting her from inside. On the 10th day, morning there was a call on Jiya’s cell from an unknown number. Jiya received it and it was Amit. “Hey Jiya i am very sorry, my friends and me searched a lot but didn’t get your purse,” Amit updated. Jiya immediately said, “Amit lets meet for lunch today, its a treat from me.” Jiya also said him the time and place and immediately hanged up the phone so that Amit can’t make any excuse. Amit was waiting in the restaurant where Jiya asked him to come, but Jiya was late by 10 mins.”Is there any good news? Why you are treating me?” Amit enquired. Jiya smiled and said, “Definitely their is a good news, I got such a good and trustworthy friend like you, I am very happy for that and thought we must go out for lunch and celebrate.”

Amit said, “That’s fine, Jiya but I could not succeed in my mission.” Jiya added, “Amit I will say you the truth today…” and she told him the entire story and assumed that Amit would surely get angry and leave the place at once. But to Jiya’s surprise he was just smiling and finally said,” Thanks to your friend who have given you this challenge, because only for this I met you.” They had a wonderful evening and they became great friends. Very often Amit use to call Jiya and either they went out for dinner or lunch or just hung out in some coffee shop. Jiya was perusing her master’s degree in biochemistry and Amit took the privilege at times to drop Jiya at her tuition classes, Jiya was very happy to get a friend like Amit but from his side it was a different story. He was in love with her at first sight but Jiya had no clue about it!

One day when Amit went to drop Jiya to her tuition class he saw all her friends were gossiping outside the classroom since the teacher didn’t arrive by then. Jiya took the opportunity to introduce Amit to the gang and everyone was very happy to meet her new friends except one; a guy named Inder, who had a massive crush on her. Jiya once mentioned about Inder to Amit; about the madness he demonstrates at times despite knowing Jiya is far from having any such feelings for him. This was the first time Jiya saw a different expression on Amit’s face when he was being introduced to Inder. Both of them stared at each other as if they were about to annihilate each other. Jiya became a little worried seeing such an expression; she knew about Inder but she was wondering why Amit too showed such a reaction.

It was Jiya’s birthday and she thought all this confusion must come to an end. She invited all her friends for a party and informed them that she had an important announcement to make.

All her friends were their in the party by 8 pm. Both Amit and Inder were also present and tried desperately to ignore each other as far as possible. Rest of Jiya’s friends were contemplating about what she was going to announce. They were almost assured that Jiya would be accepting one between Amit and Inder as her boyfriend.

As the clock struck 9, Jiya was ready to cut the yummy chocolate truffle cake, when suddenly a sharp, good looking, smart guy entered the party. He went up to Jiya and kissed on her forehead. He took out a ring from his pocket and slipped it in her ring finger. Jiya looked delighted and excited. After the cake cutting Jiya announced, “Friends this is the surprise. This is Abhishek, love of my life and i am sorry if I hurt any of you unknowingly. Abhi was out of Mumbai, he was perusing his engineering, but now he has completed it and is back here to me permanently and as you people witnessed my engagement with him, I am glad to announce that we will soon tie the knot once he gets a job.” All her friends clapped in delight.

It was only Inder and Amit who walked out of the party still snagging at each other and at the same time, they walked out of Jiya’s life too.

No Strings Attached!

“I really repent our breakup. I don’t know why did I leave you there and came to the US? I could have married you and brought you here with me,” Avik paused after saying this. Ria promptly replied, “Now what’s the use saying all this? It a past story,” Ria sighed and asked Avik, “How is your daughter and wife?” Avik changed the topic and said it was so great when we both were together. Ria replied, “Avik I need to get ready and go to my MBA class. I am logging off. Catch you later!”

It was almost after 7 years since Avik and Ria met again through Facebook. 7 years back they met, when Ria went for a vacation with her parents to Vizag and there she met Avik. It was on the sea beach where they bumped into each other and after a mutual apology and a small introduction, they both knew they were from the same city, Bangalore and was there on a vacation. Avik was pursuing his masters in economics and Ria was much younger to him, was in the twelfth grade. After that everyday Ria with her parents and Avik with his friends went to the beach almost at the same time, so they met, chatted and the day before Ria was leaving Vizag, Avik asked for her contact number and promised to be in touch.

Ria was back home and was busy with her studies and tuition. After almost a month since her vacation, one day there was a call for her. Ria received the call as both of her parents were working, she would always be alone at home during the day. A guy spoke from the other end, “Can I speak to Ria?” Ria said that she was speaking then the guy asked, “Do you remember me?” Ria was little confused but somewhere she always thought Avik will call someday. She had a  doubt but still she made a wild guess and said, “Is it Avik?” Avik was very surprised seeing that Ria recognised him. They chatted for an hour Ria hanged up but soon it became a routine and everyday they chatted for hours during the noon as it was convenient for Ria, she would be alone in the house. Meanwhile Avik completed his masters and was planning to pursue his PHD in the US. He started applying online in different universities in the US. Meanwhile Ria and Avik became very close and started dating each other.  Ria said about Avik to her friends and sometimes she would even call Avik from their cell phones. But after sometime Ria soon noticed Avik started avoiding her, she thought since it was her class 12, he was giving her time to study. Ria finished her exam but Avik was still behaving in the same way and his calls also decreased. Avik was Ria’s first love so she dint want to lose him. She tried every possible way to know why his behaviour had changed within few days time but all attempt was in vain.

One day during noon when Ria was having her lunch there was a call; she ran to receive the call thinking it must be Avik. She took up the receiver and said, “Hey Avik, I knew you would call me today..,” there was a long pause on the other end of the receiver. Finally a guy spoke, but it was not Avik’s voice. He said, “This is Avik’s friend. He had asked me to inform you that he has left for US and left a letter with me for you. When can I come and give you the letter?” Ria was dumbstruck after hearing that Avik left for the US but dint even bother to inform her. She said, “Come anytime but be quick. Let me see what he wants me to know”

The letter was in Ria’s hand after 2 more days. She read the same letter for more than 6 times and sat depressed with the letter in her hand and started to think how did all this happen? In the letter it was written,

“Ria I liked you from the very first day we bumped into each other in the sea beach. Soon with time we came close and our friendship turned into an affair. I trusted you and had a great respect for you. But one evening their was a call from your friend, basically she was my well wisher and told me about your multiple affairs which ran in parallel with our affair. She also mentioned that you are basically a flirt and play with every boys emotion. I guess I am lucky that she informed me before hand. I was very hurt Ria. But now my focus is on my PHD, so I’m better now. I thought that I must inform you why I am behaving like this and leaving for US all of a sudden.”

Ria suddenly remembered she used to call Avik from Sonam’s cell, so she is the only person who had Avik’s number. So she was the one who called Avik. She always was behind Ria, envied her good background, her looks and also her academic result. Ria couldn’t stop her tears. She cried and cried. Avik was her first love and losing him just for a misunderstanding was a very big blow for her. She was very angry with Sonam and thought soon she will meet her and teach her good lesson. Ria started to stay depressed and everyday she cried and cried. Days passed, month passed she took admission in an engineering college. Later she thought what’s the use teaching Sonam a lesson, Avik didn’t even verify all this with her, he just believed Sonam and ditched her.

Now they met again in Facebook, Avik is married with a kid and Ria is studying MBA, and soon she will join the IT hub. Avik would very frequently say her that it was his mistake, he would have at least asked her once. Then life would have been different now. But it’s a different story at Ria’s end. Its already been 7 years, and Ria is much matured now. Its true, time is the best healer, Ria is totally out of it; no strings are attached.

One day again Avik was online, she said Avik directly, “Avik now I chat with you only as a friend. There is nothing else in my mind. I have moved on – no more strings are attached to you. Since you still have a feeling for me, I guess we must stop chatting and be happy in our own world.” Ria didn’t even wait for an answer, she went to the friend list in her Facebook account and removed Avik from her friend list.

Emotion, Obsession and the Unreal world

Jiya was happily married to Avik and it was Avik’s occupation in Bangalore, which kept them far away from their hometown. It was almost three years they were in the IT hub of India and Jiya soon adjusted with the pace of the city and it’s inhabitants. Avik had rented a flat off the old airport road, near his office. Everything was running smoothly until Shiv came into Jiya’s life.

Shiv, a Punjabi guy; burly, tall and handsome. He was in the same apartment where Jiya used to stay and so they often bumped into each other either in the staircase or in the car park. Jiya only knew Shiv by his face and nothing else was happening until one day, when Jiya went for shopping and bought lots of dresses and accessories. She drove back home but she faced the hardship in carrying those loads of bags from the car to her flat. At one point two of her bags slipped her grip and with great difficulty, she managed to pick them up. Later when she was near the staircase, she tumbled down on the ground with all her bags skipping her step. Meanwhile Shiv was galloping down the staircase, when he saw Jiya on the ground; he went running to help her. He helped her to get back on her feet, carried all her bags, and helped her until she was comfortable inside her flat. After that, whenever they meet they started to spend some time in each others company, chatting on various topics. When Shiv learnt that Jiya was a Bengali girl, he requested her to send him some fish curry when she would cook it.

Jiya had a cook still she took the pain to prepare fish curry for Shiv and went upstairs to hand over the dish to him. He was a bachelor and lived with two other flatmates. It was Shiv only who opened the door after Jiya rang the bell for the third time. Shiv was surprised to see Jiya there. Jiya heard voices of girls from his room and asked Shiv, “Who are the girls chatting inside your room? Are they your girlfriends?” she winked.

“No Jiya, they are not my girlfriends, they are the friends of my flatmates,” Shiv replied. “I don’t have any girlfriend, Jiya, I am just waiting for the best match,” he smiled. Jiya handed him the fish curry and said “You asked me to prepare fish curry for you; here it is. Taste it and let me know how it is”

They didn’t meet again for next 5 days. Jiya was very anxious to know whether he liked her recipe or not. It was almost 6 months, since they started talking and chatting and slowly Jiya developed a soft corner for him. Every time they met, Shiv would always say, “Jiya why are you already married? Or else I would have definitely married you. I am  searching for a trendy, good looking and someone with a big heart, just like you.” “Do you have a sister who looks like you? Then surely I will marry her,” he added.

She waited eagerly everyday at the car park hoping to meet Shiv and to know how the fish curry tasted. Finally, on the sixth day when Jiya was going to the market she saw him on his bike and a girl was behind him. He didn’t even look at her. She thought he must have failed to notice her. Later in the day, when they met on the staircase Jiya asked Shiv who she was and promptly Shiv replied she was his cousin!

Jiya believed him and started living in the unreal world where she and Shiv was always together. She was missing him and she called Shiv in the morning and asked him to meet her but he said he was busy and cannot meet her that day. Later that evening when she was coming back from gym she spotted Shiv’s bike in the parking. She was delighted seeing that and she thought Shiv must be in his room. She went upstairs and rang the doorbell no less than five times before he opened the door. He looked exhausted and he was surprised to see her there. He promptly said that he was busy completing a presentation for his office, but at that very moment a girl came out of his bedroom; she too looked equally exhausted. Jiya noticed her carefully and found that she is not even properly dressed. Jiya understood how busy Shiv was and she made a retreat immediately without saying a word. She came back to her repose and cried a lot. She asked herself why did she get into such things afterall.  Avik had no fault and they were happily married then why she got lost in an unreal enjoyment in a world of utopia. She never found an answer but by then she realized that her real world was much enjoyable than the unreal world!

Love walking in the rain!

It was just flowing down her eyes; she had no control over her tears! She was standing by the window, looking outside towards the orange sky turning redder on every passing moment. Probably it will rain and drops started to descend within the next couple of minutes. She always loved walking in the rain, because it would hide her tears. It was her anniversary and her best ‘date’ with the raindrops.

Priya’s life was in a complete mess. She had a great fight with her hubby a year back and they were far from reconciliation. There was a big misunderstanding between them, which was killing her from within. It all started when she used to chat with a few friends to kill her time when her hubby was not around. Her hubby kind off knew about this pastime of hers and did not mind much. However, one day accidentally he came across one of her chat transcripts, which shattered their world.

It was the excerpts of her chat with Raj, a guy who liked her a lot. Rarely they would catch each other online and used to chat. Raj often could not hide his feelings even after knowing that she was married and often used desperate phrases, which looked little sinful to the naked eye. Priya did not knew what to answer she would avoid replying to Raj’s provoking comments and would move on to some other topic. At times however, she resisted Raj; “hey don’t say all this! Don’t you know that I am married and I am madly in love with my hubby?”

However, she was not so lucky on that day. The worst part was that her hubby went through the transcript, which contained only what Raj said to her. “I miss you every minute,” he read. However, surprisingly the transcript missed what Priya replied, “Don’t say all this to me; I don’t like it. I love my hubby a lot; don’t disturb our smoothly moving married life!” There was further infuriating comments made by Raj, which made her hubby’s blood boil and naturally her hubby thought she is having an extra marital affair. When he demanded for an explanation, Priya tired to explain him the whole story but he was far from buying even a word.

Few months later things just started to be normal again though still he couldn’t erase the whole thing from his mind. One day Priya was out with her cousins and went to a popular boating hub, which was known to be a couple’s paradise. She had a great time boating and then a treat from one of her cousin. That day when her hubby came home, the first thing he asked, “Did you go to that boating hub today?” Priya was waiting for him to be back home from office and she would have shared how much she enjoyed with her cousins, but to her astonishment her hubby already knew about her visit. Priya replied, “Oh yes, it was great fun there!” Her hubby replied in a sarcastic tone, “Indeed a lot of fun as you was with some guy there!” The last two words were like a shock to Priya, she thought she had got it all wrong and asked him one more time. The reply was same. Priya asked him why he was blaming her baselessly. “ I came to know about it from one of my friend from office. He saw you there and felt that you were accompanied by a guy,” He blasted. Priya tried to explain but in vain as he had already lost all confidence in her during that chat fiasco. He was not ready to listen to anything that Priya said.

A year went by; he was still the same, captivated in those misleading thoughts in his mind. It was there anniversary on that day and Priya knew he would not even bother to wish her. She started to walk in the rain and was wondering how she could get back his trust. They gave their relationship a year to revive, but she knew that they were going nowhere after she saw a comment made by him on the Facebook, “For the second time I have been amazed by the enigma and mystery of the dark side of the moon! You just cannot predict people!”

She walked and walked  till she realised she was fully drenched; she thought she thought going back to home as she turned around she was left spellbound. Her heart skipped a beat, when she saw her hubby standing right in front, beaming at her with a bunch of roses. He handed over the bouquet to her; hugged and whispered in her ears, “I am sorry for all that I have done. I love you a lot and I am  afraid to lose you,so I am possessive about you. You are my angel!” They both walked back home hand in hand. After reaching home, she was delighted to see packed food that he got for her from her favourite restaurant. “Thanks honey for all this but how you reached there behind me in the rain?” she said.  “When I came home and saw you were not there and I immediately knew you went for a walk in the rain, as you love walking in the rain,” he smiled and replied.

After dinner, her hubby filled up two glasses with champagne. They raised their toast and said aloud, “cheers to our togetherness!”

Again it’s Valentine’s day – love never fades!

Valentine’s day was coming and Jiya was excited as last year it was a great surprise from Vicky. Vicky started sending her little gifts from 7th Feb… Which ended with a mega surprise on 14th Feb. Jiya went to the almirah and took out the album where she kept last year’s valentine day pictures carefully.

She sat on a couch and got comfortable and then slowly she turned the cover and opened the album. It was the picture of the gift that Vicky send on 7th Feb.. It was a bunch of red roses on the rose day. Jiya smiled remembering that moment when she received it and couldn’t stop smiling. She carefully managed to turn the page to the next picture…8th Feb, the day he proposed. This time the gift was a diamond ring, which she still had in her finger. She could not stop her tears thinking how it felt when Vicky slipped the diamond ring into her finger…and how Vicky on his knees asked “Will you marry me angel?” She hugged him promptly and nodded to say yes. Soon after, they got married. Jiya smiled to herself thinking it was the best thing that happened in her life that she got Vicky as her hubby as the best part of her.

9th Feb was the chocolate day; as she turned the next page and found pics of those lovely liquor chocolates those, she loved. Then the next picture was of two cute teddies hugging each other, seeing that she remembered 10th Feb was the teddy day. As she turned the next page, a card fell in her lap. 10th Feb was the ‘promise day’ and Vicky gave her a card which said he will be always with her; love her and he will always guard her from all the problems. When she saw the next pic, she could not stop smiling – it was hug day on 11th Feb. The picture showed they both of them were hugging each other and seeing Jiya’s face in the picture anyone one can say how much secured she was feeling in Vicky’s arms. Then the next pic was on the beach where they both were kissing each other passionately. The picture was taken on 13th feb and it was the KISS day! Jiya smiled and turned the next page, it was the picture of both of them enjoying dinner in the beach, which was organised by the Taj for valentine couples and they are having a great time together. She closed the album and thought she had a great time last valentine’s day and since the following day was 7th Feb, she thought Vicky would start giving her surprises again!

Next morning Vicky left for office. Jiya ran to open the door whenever the door bell rang. But she was disappointed every time as she opened the door. She was expecting the delivery boy with bunch of red roses but came out to be either the dhobi or the milkman or the maid. Later in the evening she thought may be Vicky will give her a bunch of red roses by himself. She waited for him to return from office…but to her surprise when he came, he was not carrying anything . That day during dinner, Vicky didn’t say anything related to the day. Jiya thought he must have forgotten but was optimistic that he will surely remember it from the following day.

Next day was ‘promise day’ and Jiya waited for Vicky to return from office expecting there will be some surprise but it was same like the previous day. Vicky didn’t even utter anything about valentines day. Jiya thought last year they were not married and so Vicky showered gifts and surprises but since this year, they are married, she thought Vicky must have lost all the interest in her and did not love her like before. 4-5 days passed by and there were nothing from Vicky and Jiya couldn’t stop her tears and was convinced that Vicky didn’t love her anymore.

The doorbell rang in the morning just few minutes after Vicky had left for office. Jiya opened the door casually expecting the maid at the door but this time it was the delivery boy with a big bunch of red roses. Jiya smiled and received it. She was happy thinking at least Vicky remembered that it was 14th Feb. In the evening Jiya thought of making a chocolate cake for Vicky and as she was going to the kitchen, the doorbell rang again. She went to open the door, and found another delivery boy with a parcel. She received that one too and opened to find a chocolate cake inside it and a small note accompanying. It read – “Angel, you thought I forgot Valentine’s Day! How could I? I proposed you last year during this valentine day week and we were married soon. You know what? I am the luckiest person on the earth to have you with me. Love u baby!”

Jiya was very happy reading it repeatedly. She made scrumptious dinner and as that was ready the doorbell again rang. She thought it was too early for Vicky to be back, so may be it is another delivery boy. She opened the door and stood there spellbound. It was Vicky carrying a gift hamper. Vicky came inside and started showing his angel all that he had for her; there was a big bottle of Champagne, and a small red box. Jiya opened it and found a lovely pair of diamond earrings. Finally, he handed over two tickets to Jiya. She came to know that they were flying to New Zealand that night itself. She hugged him passionately and by then Vicky was ready with two glasses of Champagne. They raised the toast and said aloud “cheers to our togetherness!

Jiya went inside and decorated the dinning table with few candles before Vicky came. She served the finger licking dinner as their music system played soft romantic numbers one after the other.Vicky was spellbound to see the candles,it felt like stars twinkling in that dark room. The ambiance was so romantic, so perfect. After dinner, Jiya and Vicky packed their bags in a hurry and left for their 2nd honeymoon!

Confession of a solitary lover

Rimi missed his touch, the warmth of his hug; but she was not in a position to disclose it to anyone as she was married to Aakash. She knew her confession would ruin her married life!

Everyday she waited for his call, his mail, or maybe just a one-liner text. All those made her feel close to him. She was gradually getting dependent on him, for everything, he was like a sunrise in her gloomy life. Aakash, her hubby, a corporate manager in a leading MNC, was too busy with his official trips and hardly could give her any time. She was married for two years and quite naturally, she always craved for time from him. However, always in vain!

Rimi got married early and like most of the Indian marriages it was an arranged one. Aakash despite being the most eligible bachelor, decided to marry Rimi as he was impressed with her simplicity and innocence. Post marriage they moved to Pune, where Aakash was working.

Soon she found an alternative to devote her time to. She used to spend her time going through mails from Ronny, her childhood dude, someone she felt knowing like the back of her palm and knowingly or unknowingly liked. She used to cherish those moments when she read their chat transcripts saved on Yahoo! Messenger.  It made her feel connected to him.

It was a Sunday evening, when Rimi went to Barista alone to chill out. Aakash needless to say was out of town, busy in one of his usual business trips. She ordered for a hot mocha and when she was receiving the drink from the counter, she felt that she just saw Ronny. ‘Illusion for sure,’ she though and soon took her eyes off the person in question. She took a seat near the glass casement from where she will get a lovely view of the overlooking hills. She took a sip of the hot coffee and looked blankly towards those serene cliffs, when she felt someone was tapping on her shoulder. She turned around in a flash and the person standing in front was Ronny indeed. He took a chair next to her after Rimi’s bafflement was over. They talked and talked and Rimi came to know that, Ronny too had shifted to Pune and was employed as a relationship manager in one of the four star hotels in the city.

After an hour and a half of tete-a-tete, Rimi realised it was quite late and she have to go home. They planned to meet again. Days passed by and they continued to meet regularly. Meanwhile Ronny started to mail her often and at times called her too. She used to wait for all the communication from him and when that was not there, she knew that he must be quite busy. After all she knew her from childhood, and knew his habits well, which always made her confident about him. Even when she used to show fake anger, Ronny would chime some extol or would send some funny sms, which would compel her to burst into laughter. Happy days continued… until one day they got involved into an affair.

Rimi always felt closer to Ronny due to his proximity and not like Aakash roaming around the world on business trips and the love she got from him which was unmatched compared to the aloofness she got from Aakash. Rimi always felt time flying when she was with Ronny; she started drifting away from Aakash more and more. Even when Aakash was in Pune they hardly spent any time together. Rimi avoided eye contact with Aakash as somewhere she knew she was wrong. Aakash reminded busy with work and hardly noticing that his wife was into an extra marital affair for about a year.

Time flew and Aakash was off to Australia to attend a global meet. Rimi planned to meet Ronny in that same Barista, where they first met to celebrate the first anniversary of their affair. Ronny was waiting there in the cafe and through the glass window he saw Rimi heading towards the joint with quite a few shopping bags in her hand. She had just crossed the main road, when a big Innova came and banged her from behind. She fell flat, clad with blood; all her bags scattered here and there. She felt dizzy but just had enough strength to take out her cell phone and called Ronny. But Ronny didn’t take the call. He saw everything but simply vanished to save himself from an impending problem. Rimi managed to go to the phonebook and searched her hubby’s number. It took a while to find the same, since she rarely spoke to him over phone, Finally when she found it, she called him and the only thing she managed to say before she lost her sense “I am sorry, I betrayed you, and God punished me for that,” her voice faded. She returned to her sense after 2 days, to find herself admitted in a hospital and next to her bed stood Aakash. She expected Ronny to be there next to her, but its was Aakash who was there.

Later that evening when Aakash went home to change, the nurse came to Rimi to give her medicine. Rimi asked her “When did my husband come here? Was there any other guy who came to see me?”

The sister replied, “It was only your husband who was here with you for 24hrs.2day you got back your senses, so now he went home to change. He very frequently took updates from doctors, enquiring about you. He was very concerned about you. You are a lucky girl; you have got such a loving and caring husband.”

Rimi looked blankly at her. She asked the sister for her cell phone and checked for missed calls and incoming SMS during past 2 days. She was surprised to see nothing was from Ronny. She called Ronny, but he didn’t take the call and she thought he must be busy. But she was also wondering that she was supposed to meet him 2 days back and she could not do so for this accident; still why Ronny didn’t call her or send her a SMS?

Rimi got discharged after 2 more days. Aakash was with her for 24hrs in this last 2 days and he fed her, he helped her to go to the toilet as she got a fracture in her leg in the accident. Rimi was having the best time since marriage. They came home. and everything suddenly seemed to be very perfect. Rimi found Aakash was giving him time and was loving her the way she wanted. She realized, Aakash was an introvert person so he could not show what he felt. Now even he understood what Rimi wanted and he started trying to change his way of showing love. Aakash never asked Rimi why she said him about the betrayal. it was 10 on 10 life now for both of them…but Rimi really wanted to know how busy Ronny was.

One day she took out sometime and went to Ronny’s hotel and to her astonishment she found he was cajoling with a girl, who seemed to be his colleague. She saw them both sitting in the garden closely, hand in hand, coaxing … Rimi then knew how busy he actually was!

Love Actually…

A lot can happen over coffee! Jiya was looking towards the logo of the CCD with a cup of hot Mocha and was wondering what that exactly meant! CCD was her favourite bistro and she was a regular visitor there over weekends to chill and try out different coffee flavours. She finished her coffee and started to leave when she bumped into a guy on her exit, entering the café. She immediately looked up to say sorry, but was awestruck to see Ronny, her best buddy from college right there. She didn’t knew how to react as it was almost after 6 years that they were meeting and that too when their last meeting ended on a wrong note!

She managed to say a little hi and then a sorry. He hadn’t changed much, he looked the same guy she knew then, the same handsome guy full of charisma, may be a little too flabby than he used to be. He looked straight into her eyes and with a smile he said, “Are u alone? Can we have a cup of coffee together?” Jiya did not know why but she couldn’t force herself to say no. They took a corner seat to hide themselves from the crowd; ordered their drinks and was waiting for it to arrive. It was then when Ronny finally spoke, “Hey Jiya, how are you? How is your husband?” Jiya promptly answered, “Everything is fine. So how are you? Did u get married?” He said that all was fine at his end too and he got married two years back. Jiya was searching for her next sentence when suddenly he said, “I got transferred here to Pune just a few months back and from then my eyes were only searching for you and finally today we bumped into each other!” Jiya did not know why he was saying all this; she suddenly started feeling scared, she finished her drink in a jiffy and got up to leave. “When shall we meet next?” Ronny asked. Jiya did not know what to answer, she looked at him blankly, and than answered, “When we will bump into each other again!

Nikhil, Jiya’s husband, a Major in the army, was out of station for a month on duty, which meant Jiya could enjoy the indiscipline life for a month at least. Nikhil was perhaps the best groom a parent would expect their daughter to get married to. He was a perfectionist, dashing, handsome and rich! Life with him was no doubt the most luxurious life one can ever dream of but Jiya had to maintain the protocols and confined herself inside a shell. Jiya liked eating roadside foods, she loved walking barefoot on the beach, she loved getting wet in the rain, she loved laughing aloud but all this was not possible when Nikhil was around. After all it was matter of his name, fame and dignity. Jiya most of the time used to stay alone as Nikhil was always busy with his duties and as a newly wed bride Jiya used to miss Nikhil. Even though at times she accompanied him to their official parties, she always got bored of the protocol and chose to be alone. Jiya was working in a MNC; so weekdays flew away faster then she even realised and weekends were even nicer as she spent most of her time for herself.

Jiya tried hard to ignore Ronny’s thoughts, but she could not stop herself from cherishing the old memories. The way he would make her feel special! Those days she never realised how much Ronny really cared for her and loved her. She always thought it was just friendship! She recalled, how Ronny sang, “Do dil mil rahen hain” in the college fest looking towards her; the way he bought and wrote about thousand fan cards to make her win a competition; the way he called her up late in the night just to say a hi; the way Ronny reacted when a guy from some other college complimented her; the way he would drop her home everyday, even if he had off; the way he would play her favourite songs on his guitar; how they used to enjoy tea together in rain, they both loved eating the pavbhaji just outside their college and the list was endless! Jiya also started liking Ronny, but immediately after college her alliance was fixed and when finally Ronny got the courage to propose, it was a week before her marriage, she didn’t knew what to do, she got befuddled and left Ronny alone thinking that she couldn’t afford to put her parents on wrong foot only for him! Now Jiya was happy to see him married and settled and thought not to bother him anymore!

The following weekend, Jiya went to CCD again and she was almost stunned to see Ronny sitting their alone. She went up to his table and saw him smiling at her. He said, “I knew you would come. I was waiting for you!” Jiya knew the real Ronny was back; she smiled and occupied the seat next to him; they ordered their hot coffee. Jiya asked Ronny about his wife and he said, “I married my office colleague. Actually, my parents wanted me to get married as I was aging!” Ronny started laughing and added, “I always knew you will be back in my life!” Jiya looked at him and laughed off his joke; they both talked and talked till they both realised it was getting late. Finally when Jiya was about to leave, Ronny asked, “Hey when are we meeting next?” Jiya simply smiled and left the cafe.

Next weekend Jiya went to the cafe and found Ronny was there and this went on and on every week. They both would never set the next meeting date or time but every weekend both would come to the cafe to meet each other. Nikhil was back after a month, but it hardly made any difference in Jiya’s life; she continued visiting the cafe on weekends and Ronny would be always there for her! They started going out for lunch and at times for dinner; sometimes they eat roadside food. Jiya started to stay happy, she started smiling again and moreover she was back to her own self! Whenever she was with Ronny, she would be just herself but the moment she went back to Nikhil she would hide herself inside the shell. Days went by, it was almost a year, Jiya and Ronny was enjoying each other’s company. Ronny always loved her and he was happy with her and Jiya too started falling for Ronny. They never disclosed anything as both were married and they knew their wishes would never become reality.

It was again a weekend and both were out for lunch. When they were coming out it started to rain. Like their college days, they both planned to get wet and go and have tea from a roadside shop; after that they walked side by side, completely drenched and both even before realising, their hands were clasped. Ronny held Jiya’s hands softly; she felt nice and they walked hand in hand until they reached a garden. They entered the garden and no one was around. Jiya was in a dream world, everything seemed so perfect! She came back to her senses when she felt Ronny was kissing her passionately. She was back to the real bad world; she did not know why she ran and ran until she reached the auto stand outside the garden and rushed back home.

She was all in tears and  didn’t knew what to do. She knew that she was in love with Ronny but she was married to Nikhil! She felt helpless and sick. She thought this would affect four lives and decided not to meet Ronny anymore. On the other hand Ronny was madly in love with Jiya, but he didn’t know how to reach her. From then every weekend he would go and wait for her in the cafe but Jiya would not turn up!

Three months went by. On a weekend, Jiya came back to the cafe. She opened the entrance door slowly and peeped in to check if Ronny was their and to her surprise Ronny was waiting for her. Tears rolled down and she couldn’t stop herself, she went and hugged Ronny. She said, “I tried hard but couldn’t stop myself from coming back to you. Ronny now its time I want to be myself. I am tired of staying in a shell” – they kissed passionately as if no one was watching!

Both of them followed there heart as they realized unless they do so everything would simply fall apart. They had already lost to their hearts. Ronny immediately went home and spoke to his wife about Jiya. She was upset and cried a lot but finally she thought Ronny was never happy with her, he can be at least happy with Jiya. She agreed for the separation!

On the other hand Nikhil reacted harshly after learning about Jiya’s affair. He threw everything; he shouted and screamed. He became almost crazy as he too loved Jiya but could not express it. He also loved his duty and protocols. He was not ready for a separation until one day Jiya attempted a suicide by swallowing a full bottle of sleeping pills! Nikhil by then knew that he cannot force Jiya to be with him anymore as Jiya would never be happy. Finally he too accepted and agreed for a separation!

Now Ronny and Jiya are madly in love with each other. They are married; a perfect couple with two kids. They still go to that cafe during weekends, to cherish their memories. Now Jiya knew what the logo of CCD, a lot can happen over coffee meant!

When honey took me to the moon!

It was another routine day for Ria. Boredom and isolation were her companion as her hubby Rishav had flown to a different city on yet another official trip. Ria hated Rishav’s official travels, first reason was that she could not tag along during such trips and the second was that eternal tedium that at times almost engulfed her. She was wondering what to do that evening, when her eyes caught an album on the shelf. She went closer and saw the letters written on the top of it. Our second honeymoon – it read. She smiled and pulled down the album from the shelf. She made some coffee for herself and became cozy into a couch along with the album.

Ria became nostalgic as she flipped the leafs of the album. The photographs took her back to those fascinating days couple of years back. It was a surprise trip and it was like magic. She once decided that she would pen down her feelings about that particular trip. It was just to make people realize that how surprises can make life worthwhile! She fetched her diary and started to narrate the story of some of the most remarkable days of her life!

It was just a few months after our marriage. I was instructed to pack the bags and I only know that we are going to Kerala. I knew Kerala is called as “God’s own country”, so I was pretty excited and got into my shoes ready for the trip. Next morning we took our flight to Trivandrum and reached there by ten in the morning. The hotel car was waiting for us at the airport and without much of hassles we settled into the car and to my surprise the car took the road which was supposed to lead us out of the city rather than taking us to it. I understood that out final destination was not the capital of Kerala but someplace else! I was already impatient and asked my hubby quite a few times about this but he was hard to be molded by any such sweet attempts!

It was just over an hour’s drive from the airport and when the car stopped I was astonished to see the surroundings. However, I did not see any hotel or resort around as the place was surrounded by serene backwaters. There were a few boats waiting there and even before I could ask him that what’s happening, we were instructed to get into one of those boats! The boat ride was breathtaking as I was glued to see the heavenly beauty all around! We reached to an isolated island after a while and I was excited to see the cottages from distance. The boat stopped at a small jetty in front of the resort and I understood that we have reached our destination. There was a board welcoming the tourist and it declared that we had just landed in the Poover island.

We got down from the boat and he left for completing the check in formalities. I was walking leisurely across the green patches when I saw him coming back. I have him a smile of acknowledgment as if to convey that I liked that place. But to my bewilderment, he declared that I am yet to receive my surprise! I started to contemplate what else can be there and started to become impatient. We took our keys from reception and walked towards the cottages that I had already seen from the boat. But to my dissatisfaction, I was told that we are not staying in those cottages. I felt really blue from within, however I did not show him much. At the end of the road, we took a left turn and I simply could not believe my eyes on what I was seeing!

There were five floating cottages lined up side by side in front of me. The cottages were literally floating on the backwaters. There were concrete slabs laid to connect the cottages with the land. I think he understood that I was feeling little jittery about stepping onto the slab and he lent his hand towards me after stepping on the same, as if saying me not to worry as he was around! I held him tightly and we crossed the slab and entered the cottage. He unlocked the door and moment we entered the room, I hugged him tight and kissed him on his cheek and said him “Thanks”. He smiled back and said there was more to come! I pressed him hard but in vain. He never disclosed the secrets!

The cottage was adequately furnished. There was a queen bed places at one side of the room; a big mirror attached to the wall; a couple of chairs and a small table. The room looked more spacious as there was lesser furniture. There was a small balcony at the back of the cottage and the complete backwaters were visible from there. The most exciting fact was the gentle movement the cottage was making since it was floating on the water. I simply stood there and the view seemed to be out of world to me. I never imagined even in my wildest dream that there can be a place like this present; romantic to the core – a perfect place for honeymoon J

Far away there were tiny islands in between the waters. Few small boats were on cruise, which seemed to be the only mode of transportation available there. I saw a boat to cross out cottage and the boatman smiled and greeted me seeing me standing there. I smiled back and after he left, I stood there and gazed towards the water casually. Suddenly I felt his hands to wrap me from behind. He kissed my earlobes and whispered – “Hey did you like it?”

“It’s awesome honey! Just like you are!” – I replied. I turned around and we again hugged each other. Then we came inside the room and locked the door for some privacy.

We went out in the afternoon for a snake boat ride, included in our package. We sat side by side in the boat, hand in hand and relished the green around us. Coconut trees were all around on the Virgin Islands around Poover amidst the backwaters.

Later in the evening we walked through the well maintained garden to reach the restaurant on the other side of the resort. As we occupied ourselves on a corner table, I saw most of our fellow boarders were foreigners with just a handful number of Indian couples. After some sandwiches and coffee, we walked to the garden and occupied ourselves inside two hammocks hanging side by side. The darkness was setting in and the halogen lights were glowing. The entire island resembled like a bright twinkling star amidst all the darkness around. We relaxed, still reclined watching at the full moon in the sky. Suddenly I recalled his words and asked him, “Hey lover boy, what is that actual surprise that you said is in store?”

“We still have a day to go baby! Just wait and watch” – He smirked.

We retired into our cottage after dinner. The movement provided by the floating cottage produced enough vibes for us to start romancing and once that was on, it just continued until very late!

Next morning I wanted to explore the resort properly. It was actually quite big and occupied the entire island. It had a tempting swimming pool, pool bar, lovely gardens and facilities for indoor and outdoor games. We planned for a dip into the pool. After a few laps in the pool, we sat at the pool bar and sipped some drink. It was one of the most romantic experiences that I had ever had. We were in wet costumes; our legs inside water and playing with each other; our eyes were looking deep into each other. We ignored the people around and continued to get engrossed into each other’s feelings. It was almost fire set on water!

That night during dinner, after ordering our favorite Lasagna and Pastas, he suddenly revealed that he had forgotten his purse in the cottage. He took excuse and came back almost after twenty minutes. The food was served by then and after dinner we went back to our cottage. When he opened the door, I was left spellbound! There were candles lit everywhere on the floor and around. I was dazzled looking at those bright stars. Meanwhile he arranged the table and put the chairs on either side of it. The table contained two Belgian cut glasses and a bottle of champagne. I didn’t know how to react and just looked at him. He smiled and said – “Happy 6 month’s anniversary! This was the small surprise that I wanted to give it to you!”

“Thanks for everything, lover boy” – I said and felt my eyes were clammy and a drop of tear rolled down by cheek. He put his hand below my cheek and caught the drop and said,“There is no place for tear, only love is in the air! I will never allow even a drop of your tear to roll down. That’s a promise!”- He kissed me passionately. Then he took my hand and guided me to the table and opened the champagne after shaking it hard. The cork blew with a sound and the splashes were all around. We raised our toast and I said – “Cheers to our togetherness!” The remaining night was like heaven on earth.

Next morning we checked out and boarded the flight from Trivandrum. When I looked out in the sky, I thought of sharing this experience with all, just to let all know, about this surprise which made my life worthwhile!

Ria was back to her senses when her cell phone started to buzz. She closed her diary and took the call. It was Rishav on  line.

“Hello?” – She said.

“Honey, I am returning tomorrow and guess what? I have a surprise in store for you!” – He said and disconnected.

Ria simply sat there all in her smiles!

Obsessions of a poison lover!

“Hey, do you remember me?” – That is what was written in the email in my inbox, which I received from an unknown creepy id, [email protected]! It seemed someone had created the id just for me, using my name into it, as if to challenge me to figure out the creator’s identity! I was confused since I had just opened this new email account about nine months back, just after my marriage and only a selected few knew about it. I looked at my computer screen blankly, wondering who it can be. My thoughts were disturbed by my cell phone’s ring tone. I soon took the call and it was my best half. It was almost like a routine that he would call me once he reached his office. Just going by my reflex I started to tell him about the mail. But soon checked it and thought not to bother him for such a small issue. I disconnected the call saying “love you too honey, see you in the evening”. My thoughts were cluttered by that mail, I thought of replying and eventually did so, “Hey who are you? What’s your original name?” I logged out and got busy in my official meetings.

The next day as soon as I reached office, I opened my mailbox to check if any more mails were there from that id and to my surprise there was one indeed. He just replied me in two little words, which made my world go up side down. “Your lover!” I froze for a while and then jumped out of my seat. I ran towards the canteen aimlessly with my mind was full of questions. When I reached the canteen and thought of having some hot coffee to lessen my restlessness. I sat alone on a table having coffee when suddenly something came into my mind. Someone used to mail me in the same way when I was in college. That too was from a weird id, [email protected] started contemplating whether both of them were same person. I didn’t knew what to do, I went back to my desk and without thinking for the second time, I started replying. “Hey who the hell are you, Are u mad? I am married and my hubby is my lover!” I clicked on the send option and immediately logged off from the site.

To my surprise next day also I received one more mail. He wrote, “Who cares about your hubby and yes I am mad about you! Surprising that you don’t remember me! How quickly people forget old days! Will u b my friend?” I was shocked and started to wonder what will be my next step. First, I thought I must inform my hubby but then I thought of handling it alone. I dialed a number from my cell, “Hey hello. I am Ria, your college mate! Remember me?” It was Amir, one of my batchmates. He replied, “Hey Ria…how you doing? Where are you these days? I heard you got married?” I updated him that I was in Bangalore and said, “Hey I need a small favour from you Amir! You need to hack someone’s email id and give me his details!” Amir during our college days was an expert of such tasks, although he did all that for fun. But now its only Amir who could help  me. I briefed him about the mails from the unknown guy and after hearing the entire stuff he agreed to help me out with it.After disconnecting the call, I forwarded those mails to Amir and I sighed!

It was a Sunday, I was at home alone, my best half was off for an official trip for a week, when suddenly my cell phone rang. I took the call and found Amir on the line. He said, “Hey Ria, I got the information. These mails were coming from an renowned MNC company’s firewall. Its located in Noida and the guy’s name is Neel, though I am not sure if he is using a real name or a vague name!”

I just managed to thank Amir and then I sat on my bed helplessly. I could not believe it was Neel! We were old buddies and though I knew he always had a strong crush on me. But from my end, he was just always a good friend!  I never expected him to do all what he was doing! I felt dizzy, I felt weak…I reclined in my bed and closed my eyes, all the memories from the past came rushing into my mind!

Neel was not from my college. He was studying engineering in Pune. It was during my college fest, when I first met him. He was a handsome, good looking, extrovert kind of guy. First time I spoke to him, I was quite impressed by his charisma, he spoke a lot and it was fun to hear what all he had to say! Those days I was little down since I just had a break up. Almost a month after the fest, there was a call on my landline. When I took the call, the male voice on the other end said, “Hey remember me?” I couldn’t recognise the voice and wondered who could it be. It was obviously not Raj, my ex boyfriend. I anyways knew Raj’s voice very well! Suddenly the guy spoke again, “I know you couldn’t recognise me. I am Neel. We met in your college fest. Yes, I am that handsome hunk!” he said with a smile and continued, “Ria, I just wanted to give you a name! And it’s POISON!”

“Neel, you are over confident about yourself anyways and may I know why such a weird name? Poison?” – I asked.

He smiled and replied, “You are a sweet poison dear, and you are very intoxicating. I just saw you once but from that day, you are always in my mind! I couldn’t control myself and had to force our common friend to get your number and finally here I am speaking to you”

I could not believe on his words. To cut it short I said, “Hey, I had a boyfriend, just had a break up with him and I am not interested to start another relationship now. Anyways it was nice talking to you.” Just as I just started to disconnect, I heard he was saying something. I put the receiver back to my ears. He was saying, “Hey poison, I know about you more than you know yourself! Let’s meet up, let’s be friends at least!” I did not reply and just hung up.

After two week or so, we were sitting in our college canteen when suddenly I saw Neel was coming towards our group. Our common friend was present there. They greeted each other and immediately after that, Neel said in front of my other friends, “Hey poison, how you are? Why are you avoiding me?” I didn’t know what to say as rest of my friends looked at me with eyebrow raised listening to my new pet name! I could not even ignore him as he was in my college and the friend of my best friend! Since then he came to our college often, we all chatted in our college canteen, and within six months time we became buddies! Neel had a different attitude…it was always he who called me or came up to my college to meet me. I didn’t knew much about him and he didn’t even bother to inform. With time we started meeting up alone but just as friends as I never had any feelings for him. I was still madly in love with Raj and cherished the wonderful memories of him.

I always felt during our meetings that Neel likes me a lot, he didn’t miss a single chance to impress me but all were in vain. One fine day when we met for lunch, he said, “Poison, its long time now. You must come out from Raj’s world and move on. I know you still love him but it has already been 8 months since you people broke up! Move on poison, look around, and see there are people who are craving for you. Accept the best amongst them and make your world colourful once again!” I didn’t know what to say and looked at him with tears in my eyes. I felt sad and shattered. I just managed to say, “I am trying…let’s see what the future holds for me!”

Neel was untraceable for the next two months. Finally one day he called and said, “Poison, I miss you yaar. I am in Delhi, got a job. I had to come here all of a sudden and did not get time to inform you. Moreover I was giving you time to miss me!” he chuckled. I changed the topic and asked him about his new job, wished him and disconnected the call. After that, he started calling me time and again from Delhi and started to mail me. This was also the period when I started to get strange mails from the weird email id, asking whether I was interested in friendship! Mails from both of them went on and on in parallel until one day when Neel called me.  I thought he had called up from Delhi but it was actually from Kolkata itself! He conveyed that his trip to Kolkata was as short as two days and hence he needed to meet me urgently. We met at a café. Within no time he spoke, “Poison, I always thought that I was attracted towards you and it’s just an infatuation! But after I went to Delhi I started missing you like crazy!” He paused, “I think I am in love with you. I am just addicted to you!” I felt helpless as I was still in my Raj’s world and moreover I always considered Neel just as a friend. I didn’t reply and walked away from the cafe and also from his life forever!

Days went by and after six more months, Raj once again walked back into my life making it worthwhile! Just a couple of months later we got married.

I opened my eyes when the aura of twilight touched them and I saw it was almost evening. I slowly walked up to the window and looked outside.  I started solving the puzzle as now I knew, both the persons are in fact the same, both the cases it was Neel only using the weird email ids. I recalled how Neel reacted when I told him about the guy with the weird id. He laughed off and said, “Poison, you are anyways so intoxicating! No wonder, you have a big fan following!”

Last time he mailed me from the weird id to understand if I was interested in some other guy and now he was mailing me to check if there was any chance for him to get me back in his life! He hacked my new email id just to reach me!

I logged into yahoo, saw few more mails were there sent by him, but I didn’t even bother to read any of them. I clicked the reply button and composed, “Are you really Neel? Trust me I cannot believe it! Moreover, what you are up to?  You know that I would never like it. I was always in Raj’s world and I am always with him. I always thought you to b a decent guy, despite of all your crazy deeds. But now I am really stunned. Tell me Neel, when did we have an affair? Never! You were just my friend. You were always by your own, when you felt you called me and when you wished, you met me. You went to Delhi without even informing and then suddenly one day you came back and said you love me! Did you ever bother to know what I felt? Or as you always said I was not good as a girl friend, but I would always be a good wife! So now, I am trying to be a perfect wife of Raj. Now I truly believe that you never loved me or else you would not have hacked my id and mail me saying that we were lovers! You are simply obsessed about me.” I clicked on the send button and logged off.

Neel did not change even after my clear communication and kept on mailing me, almost to provoke me to all possible ways to get into an extra marital affair with him. Finally, one day I replied to one of his mails, “Neel, you want to meet me right? So let that be! I will wait for you in front of KFC on Brigade road on coming Sunday at 6 pm. If you wish, come and meet me. Bye!”

I reached the KFC outlet on Brigade road fifteen minutes after the scheduled time. I saw him standing there already with a bunch of red roses in his hand. He was looking anxiously here and there and was repeatedly seeing his watch, as if he was feeling his wait was becoming too long! I slowly went up to him and tapped on his arm.

“Hey poison, see you invited and I flew down from Delhi!” – He said in excitement, “You look stunning as ever. This one is for you!” He offered the rose bouquet to me.

I did not show any interest towards the flowers and said in a cold voice,

“Thank you for coming, Neel. But I called you here to make certain things clear to you!”

He stood there muted. I continued to say,

“I know you want me back in your life. But frankly speaking I have moved miles away from where we parted. I am happily married, carrying out loads of responsibilities and enjoying my life.” – I paused. Neel did not say a word. After a while, I said again, “Also I am on the family way and would soon become a mother! Hope that clarifies where we stand now! I am sorry, just for me you had to travel this far but it was necessary to end this. Hope you understand and move on from here!”

Neel stood perplexed as I started to leave. I took an auto from the crossing and saw he was still standing there in front of the KFC outlet with the bouquet still in his hand. I never saw Neel again; neither did he mail me after that day.

In love with an unfaithful fantasy!

“Truly speaking whenever I think about you, a picture comes into my mind – Its raining, we are alone and all wet, we were on a long drive, it is late and no one is around. I ask you to stop the car and I step outside and start enjoying the raindrops touching my face while you watch me intensely from the car.”

Aakash read Ritu’s text and replied, “waiting for the day when our dreams will come true, missing you baby!”

Ritu’s thoughts were engulfed by sadness like the dark clouds that were there in the sky. She was all alone, waiting for Aakash to come back from UK. It was raining heavily and she was missing him like hell, more to say she was missing his text messages. She believed that her dreams would come true one day – sooner or later! She was wondering how things have changed in last six months. It was Aakash who taught her to smile, right from heart for the second time! She looked out of the glass pane towards the falling raindrops and felt as if the whole sky was crying with her … sharing her pain, her sorrows.

Ritu was a housewife and into wedlock to Rishi for two years. Although it was a love marriage, as the year turned, there was only the marriage left but no love! Rishi was working for a MNC in Bangalore, which always kept his plates full and to add on it, he had to make official trips all over the world! He had to work until late hours and on the following day needed to leave for his office early to attend the early morning calls. As days went by Ritu started to feel lonely and soon sadness and the memories of their good times became her companion.

This was when one of her school friend told her about Orkut, a social networking site, where most of her batchmates were present. Chatting with school friends can kill some of her time, she thought and opened an account in Orkut and in no time found her school under the community section of the site. When she opened the members’ list, she found most of her batchmates were present there. She sent friend requests to all of them and within the next few days, she and her friends started scrapping each other.

After a few more days, when she logged into her account, she found a pending friend request from an unknown guy. She usually never accepted any unknown friend request but there was something different about that guy. May be it was his profile pic or the content written in his profile or may be his profession that amazed Ritu. He was a casting director for movies. Ritu always liked the glamour world; in fact the affinity was so intense, she immediately felt that being a friend of a director can bring her close to that world! She instantly added Aakash as her friend.

It however made no difference to her scrapbook until one day when she eventually found him online. They started their chitchat with simple “hi hello” but soon they started to chat almost everyday. It used to be normal friendly chat sessions though the compliments from Aakash were always overflowing. She would ask him about his shooting schedules; about the famous actors and models that he came across and very soon, they became best of buddies. Their chat schedules never paused even for a day except during the days when Aakash was off to some other city for shooting. During those days, Ritu used to login almost five times a day to check if there was at least any offline message from him. She was already addicted by the way Aakash used to pamper her; she was completely captivated by the way he complimented her, all these which she was craving for, since last one year.

The only information about Aakash, she had was that he was a Punjabi guy, almost a pinup boy, almost of her own age. He had done his courses on film and media from UK. He was single and was settled in Mumbai. Ritu didn’t knew what was happening to her, she started to build castles in air. Every morning she would anxiously wait for Rishi to leave for office, and then she would immediately login to check if Aakash was online. Soon a distance was created between her and Rishi, the obvious reason being her closeness to Aakash. After a month, Aakash and Ritu exchanged their cell numbers and then during their first conversation itself she realized that they shared similar wavelengths, same interests and were very similar by nature.

Within a couple of months, Ritu fell in love for the second time with her unknown friend. Ritu missed him when he would be out of reach during his shooting schedules. But she knew once his shooting was over, he would very well come back to her. She regained her lost smile; she started to get everything from Aakash that he expected from Rishi!

One day she took the courage and texted her true feelings to Aakash and to her surprise he texted back saying, “mai bhi tainu pyar kadiya!” Ritu felt out of the world as she jumped in joy but never did she realise that there was no future to their relationship since she was married!

As days went by, she started to become even more attached to Aakash and on the other hand she was left with no feeling for her hubby. Whenever she had a fight with Rishi, she would text Aakash and she couldn’t stop smiling seeing his lovely replies. She started to text him when he was away for shoots, “hey don’t you miss your baby while you are off for ur shooting? Sometimes I feel I have lost u when you do not reply to my msg! “She used to get a reply by end of the day,” oh my baby you will never lose me…I was busy shooting darling, it was too hectic, I am sorry baby!
Their texting continued until late nights; they both would share their dreams of an unreal world. Ritu at times would realize and would text him, “this is an unreal world dear…it hardly have any existence!” Aakash would instantly reply, “I have started liking the unreal space in which we both are together and adoring each other” and the texting went on and on. It was not much problem for Ritu as Rishi used to come back quite late!

At times for some reason she would always feel insecure about Aakash. May be for her marital status. She would immediately text Aakash asking, “hey do you really miss me?” Aakash would reply, “of course I do. Why do u think I text u everyday when I am not shooting. I miss u, though we never met, we dunno each other but there is something that’s binding us and baby don’t be hesitant, I want you to express what you feel about me, how much you miss me, its ur thoughts my sweetheart that makes me miss u… anyways I like everything about u, especially ur nose ring :)”

Finally, they made a plan to meet up. However, both were in different cities and since Ritu was married and it was, hard for her to travel alone. Aakash was the one who would come to Bangalore to meet her. They finalised the date and the venue. Ritu was very excited and was loving each moment of her own ‘unreal’ world. She was very confused and didn’t even knew what to wear during their first meeting. She went out shopping alone and bought quite a few dresses but was still not sure which one to wear. She smiled in her mind, all alone, cherishing the memories of Aakash and his crazy messages. Even during weekends when Rishi used to be at home, still she kept herself busy with some work or the other, may be to avoid eye contact with her hubby. Seeing Ritu’s attitude, Rishi understood something was wrong. He started realising that he hardly gave time to his beautiful wife. Next morning itself, he was supposed to be off for another tour and decided to surprise her once he was back.

Finally the day arrived, when Ritu and Aakash were supposed to meet. She was exited like crazy since that morning. She tried all her dresses to get the perfect combination of her attire, shoes and contact lenses. After considerable trials and error, she finally got it right. Then she picked up the gift that she had bought for the pinup boy and all set to start for her destination. She locked her door that is when suddenly she received a text from Aakash, “hey baby, I am sorry, I am off to UK for few days, and I will contact you once I am back!” Ritu’s eye became clammy; suddenly she felt all her happiness to evaporate!

She always thought he would come back for sure, as it happened every time when he went out for shootings. She waited each and everyday for a text or scrap but there was none! Finally, one day she mailed him. Next day she got her reply, hey I am in UK, part of a very big banner, a dream venture. Sorry baby I think I will never come back to India again! She did not know how to react; she simply stared at her laptop screen blankly. After hours she slowly got back to her senses, mocked at herself, and thought what a fool I was! How can one be in love without even seeing someone and that too with a married lady!

She understood that she was simply a pastime for Aakah and nothing more, he was always sincere to his passion and nothing else. He never had any feeling for her and only played with her emotions. She realized that she herself was wrong too and she had nobody to blame!

After two months one day Rishi was back from office early and asked Ritu to get ready as he wanted to take her out for a  movie followed by dinner. They started to munch popcorn as the opening credits of the movie started to flash on the screen. Ritu’s eyes locked when the name of the director was shown. It was Aakash Tandon and immediately she felt blue and guilty. But she instantly knew that it was an unreal world where she was hovering since she met Aakash, and now she was back in her real world with her hubby. She finally felt happy. The couple enjoyed the movie and then had a lovely candlelight dinner. During dinner, Rishi held her hand and said, “I am sorry honey. I didn’t realise what I was missing. Now I know I was missing you in my grueling schedule! I love you.”

Ritu smiled back at him and saw a ray of hope. She knew the fantasy was over and things would be much better in the real world!

Love, Wedding Scarf and Darkness!

It was a bad day for Ranvir, the previous night fell on a date, which he dearly wanted to forget. He has been trying since last six years but could not forget a bit of it! As a result like all the previous years, he desperately tried to submerge his sorrows in rum until he was dead to the world. As a result, he overslept, sprung out of the bed after getting rid of the cacophony of the alarm clock that went on for forty-five minutes and finally reached his office late with a serious hangover! It was no better even there. He got a solid dressing down from Mr. Dhamija, his grumpy boss for missing the early morning meeting. His sour mood and the hangover prompted Ranvir to call an early day. He left his office and started walking lazily by the busy roads of Greater Kailash in south Delhi. After walking aimlessly for a while, he finally decided to have some hot coffee and entered a bistro located close by, which was his regular hangout spot along with his colleagues. He got comfortable at one corner of the café; ordered his favourite drink and looked outside towards the hustle bustle on the busy road right in front of him.

Suddenly he saw ‘her’ crossing the road and approaching the cafe. She looked gorgeous as ever but suddenly the figure disappeared and instantly Ranvir knew, it was yet another illusion. He felt blue and looked carelessly towards the other tables that were occupied in that cafe. Suddenly his roving eyes saw someone and instantly his eyes congealed. He was contemplating whether it was another illusion. He waited for a while, as if waiting for the illusion to disappear but it was a different story this time. Ranvir realized it was not any chimera but she was really present there in front of him after six long years! She didn’t change much, only she was looking feeble as if almost frail. Her eyes were nevertheless still the same… the same eyes, for which Ranvir could have died for! She was occupying a table for two although she was sitting all alone. Ranvir couldn’t believe his eyes but it was true … she was indeed his love, Payel!

Ranvir first met her in their MBA College and it was a love at first sight. Ranvir, a Punjabi lad, was the most handsome guy in their class and Payel was a sweet and cute Bong beauty. They clicked instantly and soon became the most happening couple in the institute. It made all others think that how perfect match both of them made. In the next two years of their MBA course their bond became stronger and they were madly in love with each other. They got through campus and both got placed in Bangalore working for the same MNC. Those were the most memorable days of their life. Work was always quite hectic but the weekends helped both of them to be recharged for the following week. During weekends, they made short trips to near by places like Mysore, Coorg or Kabini forest and it made them feel that both were on top of the world. Without even realising two years elapsed. They finally planned to get into the wedlock and spend the rest of their life together. Soon they planned to inform their respective families but they didn’t know that will change their lives forever!

Both the families were very conservative, after hearing about their marriage proposal; their eyebrows rose, as if it was a deadly crime for a Brahmin girl to fall for a Khatri guy and vice versa. Ranvir and Payel tried hard to convince their parents but all were in vain. Both families were not even ready to meet each other for once. Sadness engulfed both Ranvir and Payel’s lives. They didn’t know what to do, they couldn’t even afford to loose each other and finally they came to the decision that they didn’t ever dreamt in their wildest dream. They planned to get married without informing their families. Payel was very close to her father, so she thought that she must at least go and meet him for one last time before they would take the ultimate step.

One-day Ranvir said, “Hey love, as soon as you come back from Kolkata, we will get married. I will take care of everything here. I will keep everything ready to start our new world…” She smiled and hugged him, tears rolled down her cheeks thinking that she is going to take the most important decision of her life without the support from her parents. Before leaving for her hometown, they both went to shop for their wedding. She bought her wedding dress, a red lahenga, while Ranvir bought a white Pathan suit, which would perfectly match with his personality.

They both bought their engagement rings and planned to have the engagement before Payel departs to meet her father. They organised a small get together for their engagement. Only their close friends got the invitation. Payel on the engagement day was clad in a sea green colour sari and resembled almost like a bride. She was looking exceptionally pretty and it was difficult for Ravnir to take his eyes off her. Ranvir on the other hand wore a black sherwani in which he was looking dashing and handsome as always. They exchanged their rings and enjoyed the rest of the evening with their friends. Next day Payel was off to Kolkata.

It became hectic for Ranvir, as he had to attend office as well as do the wedding preparations. He bought a lovely two bedroom flat and decorated it with the perfect shades of curtains and cushions. He used the colours that Payel liked and by end of ten days, their “sweet home” was ready. Ranvir informed the registry office ten days before Payel left for Kolkata, so that they could finish the formalities as soon as she returns. With just two more days left, Ranvir had lots to catch up with. He invited all their friends from office and their college; they planned to do the registry in the registers office and he booked a marriage hall where the reception party would be held. Ranvir was very excited but couldn’t take any chance to call Payel on her cell phone even! Just a couple of days to go for their union and Ranvir felt out of the world. He kissed the engagement ring, and thought, “The countdown has begun. Its only 58hrs 23mins left before we get married… and then you will be all mine. Love you baby”.

Finally, the day had arrived. Ranvir could not sleep the whole night in excitement.  Next morning he got ready and reached the airport by eight, although Payel’s flight was suppose to land at ten only. There was an announcement at 10.10 am,

“Kingfisher flight from Kolkata has just arrived”… Ranvir’s heart started to beat faster and faster. The passengers came out one by one, but Payel was not there. Ranvir became upset and thought Payel might have missed her flight and will come in some other flight. He waited in the airport for the entire day, one by one all the flights from Kolkata came, but Payel did not show up. Ranvir sent a text to Payel but there was no reply. He called up her cell and found it to be not reachable; finally, he gathered the courage and called up on Payel’s home in Kolkata. To his surprise, no one took the call. He was very upset and knew something for sure was wrong. From then each and everyday he waited for Payel to return, giving him a surprise. However, she never turned up!

After five long years, Ranvir finally gave up. He sold his dream house and moved back to his hometown, Delhi.

Ranvir came back to his senses; he had an overflow of the memories. The girl was sitting right there, who made his life miserable. Each and every day of the last six years was like terror, it only had pain, tears and memories. Suddenly he felt a rage within him, without thinking for the second time he instantly got up on his feet went to the table where Payel was sitting.

“Hey, remember me? I am that stupid guy who was or may be still in love with you. See I still have the engagement ring in my finger!” – He barked, “Why did you do this to me? You are the one who made my life miserable and I guess by now you are happily married to some tycoon!”

There was no reaction from Payel and she stared at him blankly.

“Why are you looking at me so blankly? Now don’t say you don’t remember me?” – Ranvir blasted. A girl who was taking a call outside the café, rushed inside and said, “That’s true actually that she does not remember anything!”

Ranvir looked baffled. The girl added, “She met with an accident six years back and succumbed to amnesia!”

Ranvir couldn’t believe to what he was listening. He asked the girl, “Who are you? And how do you know all these?”

“I am Payel’s cousin; I got married two years back and now settled here in Delhi. Payel came to my place for a vacation.” – She replied.

Then she described how Payel met with the accident, just a day before returning to Bangalore. She was coming out from a shopping mall when a reckless driver lost control and the car banged her head on. Her body recoiled out of impact and her head hit the pavement hard. She was admitted to the ICU under fatal condition. The doctors fought hard and saved her. Slowly her wounds healed but the memory was lost forever! She was undergoing treatment since then.

Ranvir stood there and witness, the world to collapse in front of him. He felt as if his heart stopped its rhythm and only tears rolled down his eyes!

The deep blue sea!

Water water everywhere…not a drop to drink. No one realized it more aptly than Vicky, a merchant sailor, sailing for six months continuously. Although that was his first voyage, yet he felt as if he was aboard for ages. That afternoon during his scheduled break, he decided to browse the net. It was his only way to stay in touch with his friends and relatives, back on land.

He logged onto Facebook, a social networking website and found quite a few friend requests were pending. He lazily started to approve and reject the same until the last name, which left him enthralled. The request was from Jessica. Even before adding her to his list, he quickly clicked on Jessica’s friend list to search if “she” was present there or not! The list contained 330 names and he went through each profile and pic, making sure in case “she” was using some nick name. After about 15 min of research he succeeded. He was spellbound, thinking, was she the same cute sweet girl he knew a year back? He couldn’t believe his eyes, the girl he knew was now a lady…as beautiful as always but the childish outlook has been encapsulated into a more matured cocoon.

He immediately checked her profile and as the life size of the profile pic flashed on the screen, his eyes froze. He looked straight into the eyes of the lady in the photo. Those eyes always made him crave for her; her smile made him always think that she was the sunshine of his life! All that was still the same but it was all meant for Rishav, the one Ria was married to. Instantly he felt that it was Rishav, for whom she left him alone amidst all blues!

He clicked on all the pics in her album, one by one and couldn’t stop envying Rishav for having such a beautiful wife like Ria. There were almost 50 pics, taken at different locations, all over the world and she looked gorgeous in all of them. He couldn’t control his eyes when a pic from Switzerland occupied the screen. Ria was posing alone amidst the snow and by her expression anyone could say how happy she was. Her smile made him nostalgic yet again and he could not stop the overflow of memories from the past.

Those days, he felt, were the most lovely, happening and memorable days of his life. He first saw Ria in a western dance class, which they both attended. Ria was a prolific dancer but Vicky was nothing lesser. They soon got into a pair for some of the songs. Their dance school was competing in a national level competition. Along with others both of them too represented their institute and truly speaking they made the best dancing couple amongst all the available pairs. During that period Vicky was captivated by her charm. Ria was very extrovert in nature, fun loving, good looking, out going and ofcourse not to forget good at heart. Vicky, on the other hand, could be attributed through three suitable adjectives only … smart, handsome, and genuine! As days went, Vicky’s love for her increased and by the time their programme ended he was madly  in love with this girl. The chemistry showed on stage and as a result their dance school won the second prize in the competition. It was celebration time and members from the dance class planned for a picnic.

Suddenly Vicky was back in the present and found it was time to go back to work! He needed to rush and quickly sent a friend request to Ria simply driven by reflex before moving out of the internet room.

After his scheduled duty hours, when evening was setting in, he went to the deck and stood there alone looking at the deep blue sea. It seemed as if his sorrows were submerged into the depth of the ocean. Even before he could realize, memories of Ria, flooded into his mind.

He couldn’t ever forgot the picnic congregation. It was indeed his first step towards the deep emotion that he developed for Ria. Vicky’s mom came to the dance class before they left for the picnic to give them some pakoras and paranthas to be consumed during the couple of hour’s journey. It was the first time he introduced Ria to his mom, whom he loved the most in the whole world.

Picnic was quite good too as Ria declared Vicky to be her best friend in front of all and the declaration did not please a few, needless to mention that Vicky had few competitors in his class as quite a few guys were trying their luck on the most happening gal in their group. After he was back from picnic, Vicky couldn’t stop himself from asking his mom, whether she liked Ria or not. Vicky’s mom said , “Ria is a sweet girl, but tell me something truly, Vicky… you like her, don’t you?”… Vicky was stumped but since he never lied to his mom, he said shakily “Mom, I don’t like her, but I love her”…and his mom smiled back and said “you are my son Vicky, I know what you are feeling, I too liked her, and I think you couldn’t express your feelings to her.”. He gave his mom a sheepish smile, while his mom said, “Go boy, go and propose her!”

He suddenly felt his eyes were getting clammy! This time not for Ria, but for his mom. He could feel the sea breeze brushing his face; he felt cold as he missed the warmth of his mom’s affection; he was missing his mom like hell. Six months were elapsed and he did not see her, he did not taste the delicious food she makes for him. He instantly walked away from the deck and went into the radio-room of the ship. He dialed the number … his mom picked up “hello”… Vicky tried to hide his tears and tried to speak normally… he cleared his throat and said, “Hey mom, how are you? I don’t know why but I am missing you maa!” As he uttered the last words, tears rolled down his cheeks. His mom could feel from the other end of the line that her son Vicky was very sad, she knew what pain her son went through in the last one year, her eyes instantly became moist too. She said, “Son, don’t get upset, you were my brave boy. Why are you crying? My son is in merchant navy, within couple of years, you will be the captain of the ship, and you made us proud. Distance doesn’t matter, my blessings are always with you” Vicky felt a load off his heart and said, “love you mom” and disconnected the call.

Next day during his duty hours he couldn’t stop contemplating, whether Ria had accepted his friend request or not? As soon, his schedule was over, he almost ran to the internet room, logged in and to his surprise, he saw that Ria had not only accepted his request but actually even scrapped him saying a little hi! He felt very happy from inside, almost felt like singing and dancing as if he had solved one of the unsolved mysteries of the world. He scrapped her back asking about her whereabouts and other routine stuff. As days went by, quite frequently they started scrapping each other and Vicky during his off hours either used to stay online in anticipation that Ria too would be there or he stood in the deck looking towards the deep blue sea and thought of the wonderful days they spent together.

He would stand there for hours looking at the blue sea searching for Ria’s reflections in the water. He felt the magnitude of void every time whenever he thought of her. He thought of the jokes they shared and which left both of them guffawing till the tears were out. He thought how easily she became friendly to his close ones and how everyone appreciated him for having a friend like Ria. They loved to drink the same masala chai and every time they went to a local mall, they wouldn’t miss an opportunity of have it together. How they both went for shopping and every time it was Ria who picked up the perfect shirts for him. He missed the way she use to hug him, saying he was her best friend and he missed the way she would come well dressed and would nod at him as if to ask how she was looking. It was always thumbs up from his end which made Ria smile, for which Vicky would die for. The reflections of Ria in the deep blue sea made him crave for her even more.

Two more months elapsed and although their conversation never went beyond formal scraps but something from within  made him happy. The deep blue sea became his best friend sharing the memories of his past and present. One day when he stood on the deck, there were dark clouds, he somehow saw a silver lining in that darkness too, which otherwise gave him a feeling of being engulfed by it. Deep inside he had already created a world of their own, hoping someday Ria would come back to him. Suddenly it started to drizzle, Vicky looked at the sea, it looked mesmerizingly beautiful, it seemed to be without any boundaries, it was similar to the non stop memories that he had of her. He did not bother to take a shelter and sweet memories of Ria started to pour down on him.

Around a year and half year back, one day both of them after their dance class went for shopping. They were walking side by side when suddenly it started to drizzle, they both didn’t bother to take shelter and enjoyed the first downpour of the monsoon. Both kept walking hand in hand, laughing, singing, and bopping. Vicky could not ignore Ria’s beauty, her wet hair and she was looking like the goddess of love. He tried hard to control his emotions but something in him was insisting, “hey boy…propose your girl… She will be all yours”.

He told Ria that he had to take some good CDs for his mom and they both headed towards Planet M, a leading music store located nearby. After entering the shop Ria went to the other end searching for some DVDs for herself. After a while, suddenly she heard Vicky was calling her by her name. She tried finding him through the CD racks but it was all in vain. When finally she located Vicky, she saw he was listening to something with a headphone plugged to his ears. Vicky offered her the other headphone, to listen to the song that he was listening to. Ria put it on and found it was playing the lovely track, “Nothing gonna change my love for you!”. They both enjoyed the song till the end and finally when Ria was removing her headphone, Vicky said, “Hey gal, its dedicated to you, I never thought this will ever happen to me, but I love you baby, I want to marry you!”

Ria didn’t knew how to react, tears appeared in her eyes, and soon it was rolling down the cheek. She tried to be normal and somehow said, “Hey we are best friends, I never thought you would do this! I thought at least you would be different from others! All men think alike!” She rushed out of the shop, Vicky ran behind her to explain, but she was too stubborn, too angry! She left for home, leaving him alone. Vicky tried to contact her, but she didn’t respond and within 6 months Vicky heard from Jessica, their common friend that she was married. It left Vicky’s world shattered into pieces.

He felt cold, it was still drizzling, he was totally wet by then; he came inside, went into his cabin. Next day he went to the internet room, logged in to check if there was any more scraps from Ria. He got lucky, Ria was online. They chatted for almost an hour about each other’s new lives and then suddenly Ria logged off saying she had to cook dinner for her husband! The last word tore his small world of hope into pieces and he felt Ria was very happy with her hubby, in her new world! To his surprise, he started feeling the same pain he felt two months back, before he restored contacts with Ria. He didn’t knew what to do, where to go for an explanation. He thought, the deep blue sea, his best friend, would definitely give him some solutions! He ran on to the deck, looked at the sea and started searching for Ria’s reflections, but to his surprise there were none! He stood there still, looking at the sea and as if the rumbling of the sea gave him the answer. He knew it always was only friendship from Ria’s end! It was a mirage that he was running behind and that had made his life miserable. It brought back the world of pain, sorrow, and tears!

He immediately knew what he had to do. He rushed back to the internet room, logged into facebook, went to his friend list and opened Ria’s profile. He smiled at her profile pic for one last time and then deleted her profile from his list. Suddenly he felt happy, he felt light, he thought there would be no more anchoring but just moving on like his best friend …the deep blue sea!

The blues and greens of a valentine!

There was a beep on Ria’s cell phone. It was a text from Kajal, her close friend. She selected the view option and could not stop beaming seeing the message. The screen showed …

14TH FEB VALENTINE’S DAY..

Ria was a 22 yrs old girl or may be a termed as a lady, since she was married, even if the marriage was only a month old! Ria, naturally effervescent by nature, never thought to have an arranged marriage! But, destiny has something else stored for her and there she was, married to Rishav, who was an introvert and six years elder to her!

That day, when Rishav was back from work, Ria, excited to the core, could not wait to read out the chart to him. However, when she narrated, Rishav showed an indifferent reaction. Nevertheless, Ria took it positively an interpreted his silence in a different way. She thought each day of that special week would bring all kinds of surprises. A few days before the special week, she, with her few close friends from her western dance class planned and went to buy gifts for their respective hubbys. She was very confused and really didn’t figure out what gift to pick for his beloved one. Finally, she picked a book of romance and a card that displayed a romantic couple on a beach on its cover.Everyday she met her friends in the dance class and all of them were quite excited about the coming week. Few of her friends planned to surprise their better halves with tender holiday packages while the others thought of having candle light dinner with their charmers. Ria, however didn’t bother much about these obvious options as she was expecting a surprise on each of the coming days of that week. She dreamt of a unique time, as that was her first valentine’s day with her hubby.

Finally, that special week commenced and according to the chart it was the “rose day”. Rishav like all other days went to office, while Ria was ultra-excited thinking her day would start after Rishav was back home and she was wondering how he will gift her a bunch of red roses! Every time the doorbell rang, her reverie got disturbed as she ran every time to see if it was a home delivery of roses from Rishav. But each time she opened the door she was disappointed by some or the other faces, starting from the milkman to the maid and what not! She finally concluded, might be Rishav must have planned to gift her the red roses all by himself! She waited till evening and when Rishav was finally back, she saw Rishav’s one hand was carrying his laptop and the other had empty! She felt blue from inside and finally consoled herself thinking Rishav always has great pressure in his office so may be this went out of his mind! Just as a small reminder, Ria brought up the topic during dinner that night.

“Hey honey you know today was the rose day?”

“Really? Well … it’s good for those young lovebirds who are into affair!” – Rishav replied, “The girls have got lots of roses today I guess, all the bachelor guys must have tried their luck. Red roses for a day to express love! How funny!” – He chuckled.

Next day, Ria thought may be last night’s reminder might work. She actually skipped her dance class for that day expecting a parcel from Rishav. She started dreaming that Rishav would send her a parcel soon with a bunch of red roses to say sorry. Whole day went by but the doorbell never rang … finally when it rang in the evening it was Rishav back from his office and like the previous evening his hands were empty. That night again during dinner, Ria expressed, “Honey today was the proposal day!”

Rishav didn’t show any interest and changed the topic and started talking about the hectic work schedule in his office. Ria was naturally very upset but really never showed any reaction as she thought the remaining five days would surely have some surprise in store.

Next day when she went to her dance class, all her friends literally pounced on her to listen to whatever had happened during the last two days! Her friends were anticipating an amorous story as expected from newly weds. Kajal finally spoke, “Hey dear I hope both of you had a great time yesterday. I am sure Rishav took a day off to be with you and for that you too took a leave from the class?”

Ria didn’t know what to say as her eyes become clammy, she escaped to one corner of the dance hall and before she could stop herself tears rolled down her cheek. To add to her misery her friends started narrating their own stories that contained every patch of green and purple. Few of her friends even told her how romantically their hubby’s have offered them bunch of roses and others said how their husbands pampered them with surprise dinner! She felt let down and couldn’t stop thinking how lucky her friends were.

One by one the days passed by but there was no surprise… not even a single one! By then came the Valentine’s day and she started believing that all these days had no more importance in her life! She even didn’t knew how to  give the gift to Rishav as that day hardly meant anything for him….she thought since Rishav was so much elder to her, for him all those were kiddish activities!

Finally it was 14th Feb but there was no bells ringing in the air. It was a normal working day and as usual, Rishav went for work. Ria thought of skipping her dance class as she thought that she couldn’t be part of the discussion of her friends about their celebration for that night. She strolled into the kitchen to make her some breakfast, when suddenly the doorbell rang! She opened the door lazily after the fourth buzz. There stood a delivery boy with a big parcel in his arms. She signed the paper and took the parcel from him. She started opening the big box. When she opened the big box, there was another small box inside it. When she opened the second one, she was spellbound! She was astonished to see a bunch of red roses and a small note glued to it. “Hey baby I know I made you wait long for this but I really wanted to surprise you with a big bash! Better late then never, here are some red roses for the brightest rose in my life…I will love you until the last rose dies!”

Ria kissed the roses, tears rolled down her cheek. To her astonishment she found amongst the fresh real red roses there was one synthetic rose and instantly she knew want his last words meant! Then surprisingly she found 1 more box inside it…she took it out and saw the box was tagged as proposal day…when she opened it, she found a small epistle inside. She started reading it and after she finished reading, she felt as if she was daydreaming. The words pronounced, “Baby I love you very much. You are my world. Can I please take you out for a candle light dinner tonight? Please don’t say no… I have already booked a table for two in Bellaciao .. Your favourite Italian restaurant .. Counting minutes to be with you tonight”.

Ria felt as if she was on cloud nine … she was smiling at herself and didn’t know how to react. Inside that box there was another box, tagged as chocolate day. The box contained assorted liquor chocolates. There was one more box inside tagged teddy day. A sweet brown teddy was waiting inside holding a heart sign on its tummy along with box tagged Hug day. Ria was wondering what might be inside!

She found two cute little tiger cubes hugging each other and their was a small note in paper written “cannot wait to take you in my arms!” Ria smiled and checked out the next box tagged as kiss day. Hurriedly she opened it and found another note inside… “I cannot ever forget our first kiss…it was on our engagement day, it felt like heaven on earth…and want you to know still i feel the same, every time I kiss u … mmmuuuaahhhh”

The last box was tagged as VALENTINE’S DAY…Ria couldn’t wait to see what was inside, she opened and found a small jewellery box and a white envelope. The box contained a lovely pair of diamond earrings while the envelope contained return tickets to Thailand for two, dated 16th Feb. There was a small paper inside, “HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY HONEY, GET READY FOR YOUR SECOND HONEYMOON”.

Ria smiled as tears were rolling down…she didn’t know why she was crying but didn’t even bother to know. She thought how wrong she was, it was Rishav, who exactly knew the importance of the day! She could not stop herself feeling proud of being as lucky to have Rishav as her husband.

An Extra Marital Affair

All say love ends after marriage. It was anyways tough for Ria to judge the authenticity of this statement. She was in wedlock with Rishav for five years … and it was an arranged marriage. They were happy nuptials to the world yet there was something missing! However, she never knew what it was!

As time went by, Ria realized that she hardly shared any similarities with Rishav. She was an extrovert girl, confident, good looking, with a pleasing personality, jovial and outgoing by nature. On the other hand, Rishav was an introvert guy, who loved to be confined within himself. He was a talented person with vast general knowledge, a writer, and a poet. Nevertheless, no match to Ria’s expressiveness and did not have much connection with the outer world apart from his professional life.

The difference was slowly creating a distance between them. Ria by virtue of her outgoing nature used to make many friends and tried to shy away from the fact that things were not in place. But it wasn’t easy for Rishav, as he had hardly anyone to share his melancholy or rather can say he never wanted anyone to know that he was lonely. Time went by … there came a period, when they enjoyed parenthood. Their little bundle of joy Aryan, seemed to be the first similarity or may be was their first step to realize that something was common in both. That was their love for their son – Aryan. Ria got too involved with her son and could hardly spare any time for Rishav. Rishav however, never revealed his feelings to Ria, even if he was feeling forlorn from inside. Time elapsed like that and after three more years, their second son Aayush was born.

Ria always had the realization that even if there was nothing much common between them yet she was always honest to him, she felt being dishonest would be a major injustice from her end. She kept herself busy in own world, with friends, cousins, kids, shopping and everything else that made her happy. She however never realized that these were momentary elements of joy but the real happiness was still missing. Rishav meanwhile saw Ria busy in her own world and refrained from disturbing her. He however was in a quandary about what should he do? After all his world revolved around Ria and the kids. He eventually started to write a book on the anecdotes of his campus life. He never had a love life but he thought of enjoying one in his imagination. He purposely added a fictitious character in his story, as his girlfriend in campus and described a love affair that never ever happened! The fictitious character was a reflection of Ria, which helped Rishav to express the intensity of his love, which otherwise he himself too never realized.

Ria read the manuscript every now and then and with time things started to change. Ria realized Rishav, the writer was so different than the actual Rishav. On the other hand, may be the writer in Rishav brought out the real Rishav! Soon both of them started to spend quality time together, exchanging thought. Ria felt Rishav became much more expressive, pampering, admiring and started complementing Ria, which she was craving for last five years. Soon they realized that their tastes were not so different from each other. Slowly more commonality surfaced, and the closeness increased. Ria started to suggest Rishav how to make the book even better. She helped Rishav to pen down how the lovebirds in the story started to become intimate, their moments of joy, sorrow, and their moments of ardour.  Soon both of them got so involved into the characters they felt as if things were happening in real!

Then one day Rishav gave an unusual proposal. Rishav told Ria that he wants to start everything afresh. “Let us assume ourselves as unmarried couples and feel the passion like the characters in my book!” He revealed his feeling that he felt was in deep love and shared the madness, which usually a boyfriend demonstrates before a girlfriend! Ria was astonished by the proposal, but agreed to start everything all over again.

Things started to fall in place soon. Frankly speaking, this idea of boyfriend – girlfriend was funny but it started to work well. They started to explore a happier life, they started to text each other frequently, at times just to say miss u! Ria started to text him regularly to express each and every incident happening around her. This in no time intensified their affair. One day the movie Titanic was coming on TV. Ria was watching the same as Rishav was away on a tour. When the heroine of the movie made her appearance, Ria felt uneasy, almost haunted. Soon she remembered that once Rishav revealed that he likes Kate as an actress. Ria grabbed her  cell phone and immediately started texting Rishav – Hey lover boy … u know wht? I dnt like Kate … wonder wht u like in her! L

Soon there was a beep on Ria’s cell phone. She checked it and chuckled after seeing the reply – I 2 don’t like Kate J I only luv my gal my baby – Ria could not stop smiling reading that and thought how can a person be as sweet as Rishav!

With time, they started to make frequent day trips to near by tourist spots, leaving the kids back at home. The idea was to spend some quality time together.

One fine day Rishav surprised Ria, when he handed over two return tickets to Maldives. Ria was astonished seeing that as one of her dreams was coming true. She loved beaches and Rishav knew the same. In addition, Maldives is an exotic location for perfect romance. They left the kids back home and were off to the island for a three nights – four days trip.

In Maldives, in the evening both laid on the beach, side by side; hand in hand; gazing at the stars above. After a while Rishav asked Ria to stand up. She was little surprised yet she followed what Rishav asked. When she finally stood, she was spellbound to see Rishav kneeling in front of her offering her a small gift-wrap.

When she opened the wrap, she found a platinum chain inside. She was delighted to the core and at the same time astonished to see the gift. Then she nodded her head asking for an explanation. Rishav smiled and uttered those magical words – “Will you please REMARRY me?” Ria froze there, only tears rolled down and a smile was on her face.

Seconds later Ria found Rishav waiting for a reply still on his knees, she put her hand forward and helped Rishav to get back on his feet. Then she hugged him with passion and whispered in his ears – “Yes!” Then it seemed as time stood still and it was only the couple and the waves that was moving! They fell in love once again and during the next two days they were enjoying there second honeymoon in Maldives.

Rishav and Ria knew it is a truth when all say – same minds attract each other but truly speaking different mind mesmerizes!
