Two black bugs and sixteen red ants

Frank went deep into the bush

Hiding from his father’s stare

Saving himself from Amanda’s eyes

Amanda is more a mother than sister

And he finds her more intimidating

Than the wild bugs in the bush

He eyed two black bugs crawling chameleon

Frank picked one by one balancing in his two wannabe fingers

Dropped them immediately into the empty jam bottle

Then, he looked for preys here and there, all around and over

Not finding anything interesting and little upset

He settled for the tiny red ants on the tree above him

Sixteen red ants, venomous and perfect

Then closing the bottle lid quickly

Frank lounged quietly as he shook the bottle intermittently

The two black bugs and the cavalry of sixteen red ants

Fought historic epic battle till they all tossed for life

And eventually died to the eight year old’s whim.

Stringless love

You go love bird, go off the strings

And explore the colors of the world

I am letting go you of my true love

I know that you know I love you true

I know that you know you are my life

You are my world, my life

But today I free you of the chains

Fly off to green lands not trodden

Discover the newness, color of life

Fall in love with the beautiful world

Explore the hills, springs, the land of sun

Live life stringless

Know you true love and then come back

I will wait.

The incompleteness is now complete

You had instilled such joy, I had felt complete

Not a care in the world no burden unwieldy

A song in my heart, tapping were my feet

There was a time when time stood still

Every moment when I gazed at your face

All my dreams, I hoped you would fulfill

Yet a fear, a doubt had been lurking around

Will I one day, from my slumber awake

Find reality hurting and the pain profound

We never could really travel together

Fate or what else that stood the barrier

Pondering, makes the predicament only harsher

We lived the years as there were to live

But something was amiss something unconsummated

More often than not, the mood would turn pensive

Heard of your demise today, my heart went offbeat

That potential and those possibilities that could have been

My feeling of incompleteness is now complete.

Sparrow on my window

It was a sparrow

Yes, a little sparrow

All set to keep me on my toes

When the world slept in dark and peace

It would nibble, nick and flutter on the AC sil

It would shake me off my warm sleep

At the dead of the night

The starry nights are not so pleasant

When you are clumsy, have deadlines to catch

The sparrow all set to plot against me

It stroked the tin sil as if there is no tomorrow

As if he met his long lost lover after a war

Everyday, all through the winter month, all night

I would wake up at midnight and come out

To fly off the little plotting creature, with a dead twig

So that I can sleep in peace

And can reach in time prim and proper

And then one day

I woke up to silence

No picking, no flutters, no signs of existence

I opened the window and sneaked out

But no sparrow, no life, no plots against me

All night I tossed on bed thinking of the little bird

A lost little bird that strayed to bad weather, fog and cold

To some distant world, far off, far away.

God’s Religion

When in religions all,

‘Mother’ means the same,

‘Father’ means the same,

Duties mean the same,

Rights mean the same.

When in religions all,

‘Good deeds’ mean the same,

‘Bad deeds’ mean the same,

When ‘Nature’ is the same,

‘Universe’ is the same,

When each one is the child of God;

Why then are sins committed?

Why does man kill man?

Though depart must we all,

To the same Destination.

MY COUNTRY

India is my country;
I am proud of it;
We Indians are mighty
I am aware of it,

India is my country;
I am a lover of it.
Our ideas have diversity,
I respect it.

India is my country,
Admirer I am ardently of it.
Our people and landscapes have beauty,
I am proud of it.

India is my country;
A whole-hearted well-wisher I am of it.
Its borders are our wealth,
I am concerned about it.

India is my country;
I am dutiful to it
Worried I am about its security,
Preserving-safeguarding-protecting
I shall campaign for it.

A Plea

God to man hath gifted nature
Whose nurture could do no one
So nature to man said,
I love thee no more

Felled you, my trees wantonly
Killed you my animals wantonly.
Polluted have you me thoroughly.
Nothing left have I to give you really.

Then man to nature pleaded
Nature oh my nature
I pray to you thee
Rain to me thou bless
For no drop of water have I
No grain have I to eat.

Mirage

The cool desert wind,
I could feel it with eyes closed.

Looked down, I could see the stars,
Reflected in the water at my feet.

It was an oasis,
after miles of trudging.

I caught up the water
Saw the reflection in my palm,

Only to realize …
I was looking at a mirage.

One moment in time

I lived all my days, for that one moment in time
No past no future, in that instance
Felt the world around me sublime

All seemed so clear to me and yet I was blind
Wanted no past no future in that instance
A knot was getting tied there, never to unwind

In your arms I lay trustingly when you kissed my forehead
Felt no past no future in that instance
For me only for me this is, my every being pleaded

In the life that I live, such moments I want to steal
With no past no future in that instance
Time would just stop and the days would turn surreal

Sigh! We walked our separate ways, now memories drop by as gentle dew
There was no past no future in that instance
So never mind the ending dear, love, with you it did ensue

May your dreams come true

Eleven months and four seasons ago I had a dream

I have many dreams

But that was special

I dreamed of a rainbow world

With multitude of people

With cascade of colors

They speak different

Wear, eat, sing different

But all are united in their thoughts

They have the same red blood

The same tears, the same laughters

The same hopes, dreams, aspirations

The same dream of peace and love

I had a dream

That was a simple dream

And as I usher in the new year

I am one more year older and more hopeful

I still have the same dream

//

Unshed tears

Like dark clouds they strain,
On the verge of blue sky,
Vying to rush and drain,
The sea of her cheerless eye,
To show strength to world around,
With great effort she smiles,
For her child she holds the ground,
To protect from vile and guiles,
You left me alone she says,
To the one that parted ways,
Her heart for one thing craves,
As rough weather she braves,
Haven , where without fear,
She can let go that unshed tear.

Color my heart

The sky splashing colors

Blue red, oranges

Dark green, light green, purples, pinks

The best is the not-so-red color

The virgin red is very close to my heart

Full of hope, power and love

So what it’s not-so-red?

Difference between red and not-so-red

Is just a shade or two

You give the not-so-red

And I will color my heart a shade darker

A perfect virgin red.

Who are you?

Who are you?

Who really are you

You find more happiness in my pains

Than in your own happiness

You await my sad moment to be happy

You highs do not seem to amuse you anymore

You find solace in my humiliation

You stalk me instead of contemplating your life

You smile when I cry

You hate it when I laugh

Who really are you

Who are you?

Woman anywhere…

I could have sworn

that a tear had run down

I knew she was strong

but how long could she

hold on?

A mother of two

a boy & a girl

a wife so devoted

a woman who cared.

Now,she remains all

alone

her womb is empty

so is her heart & soul.

For is there any life left

for a widow or a mother

who loses her kids

to death?

But she is strong,

she held on…

Happy birthday my girl!

The hand pulling rickshaw puller

Struggled his feet through the

Hot and burning stone street

The lady sat fat with lot of extra shopping weight

Her right hand never stopped feeding her mouth

She ate as if there would be no tomorrow

And the puller pulled like there would be no tomorrow

His feet all bare and rough

The soles tough, distracting the stones

The sun was merciless

He eyed a bunch of young people

Gorging on the colored drinks

Two children playing with ice cubes

The lady still munching the snacks

The puller rode like a horse now

He can’t waste any time

He has to meet his little girl

Who’s been waiting since forever

He needs 20 rupees more

To buy her a birthday gift

The gift she’s been wanting since last year

The puller got the fat lady down safely to her house

Took  the money, sidelined the rickshaw

He went to an ever old, shabby shoe shop

Shopped for a couple of chappals

Bought his choice and came home

Wearing the sandals in blue straps

His girl gave him a big hug and a tearful kiss

He finally made her day.

I love you by heart – a poem

Sweetheart,
I have loved you since I met you,
I love you by my heart,
I love you unconditionally,
I love you madly,
When I see you,
I forget my pain,
And some people call me insane,
When you are away,
It becomes difficult to stay,
I miss that touch of you at night,
When you sleep by my side,
I miss that morning kiss,
And that bliss,
Darling,
I am surviving just for you,
I have always loved you,
I need you.

A tribute to my sister.

“At night,
Alone in my room, I sit,

And miss my sweet little sis,
Who has gone for further studies,
We have always been good buddies.

Whenever, I used to feel low,
She was the one to give me hope.

She is bubbly,
She is charming,
And she is so cute,
Without her, I felt the solitude.

She has always remained straight forward,
With her, I never felt bored.

In our home, she has been the boss,
But yes, was really afraid of dogs.

She used to imitate everyone,
Living with her, was so much fun.

She has always been conscious of her looks,
On her facial methods, I can write a book.

We both look alike,
People often asked me,
“Is that your twin sister standing by your side”?

We both share a same sun sign,
And have shared our bad and good times.

Our choices have always been opposite,
If I loved “black”, she was fond of “white”.

Yet we have a strong bond,
That, I am sure of, is going to last long.

I miss my little sister,
Of beauty and brains,
She is a mixture.”

ME – FOR NOW

This swinging, this restlessness every now and then

The days go by and life is leaving me behind again

Moments subtract as I slowly enter the tunnel of chaos

Wrangling my being and drowning me in the darkness of pathos

Leaving me with a mind devoid of inspiration and drive

The cosmic forces against me seemingly connive

Reasons, or are they pretexts, pull me in every direction

Which way do I need to go; priorities are all up for auction

Here I am free and yet bound in my heart

Can I ever, the maps in my mind rechart

Is this world, for me specially paved ?

Or am I here, for this world to be reframed?

Is it a cause or is there a reason that I am here

Am I to just let go, or every moment should I endear

Just for now, this moment, I know is swinging me about

Tomorrow will be another day I know without a doubt

I will live my life as there is to live

Myself and my insecurities I shall soon forgive

Festive newness

The cumulonimbus sky beckons

The concrete nature turning lucid

There is something in the air hard to define

The fun frolic newness

New clothes, new plans, new hopes

New sky, new color, new love

The old Durga – in this new world

Live the festive newness

It was the spring of one year

It was the spring of one year
A spring so untimely, yet so pretty
There was no rain
Yet everything seemed fresh
The same old sun shone upon the earth
Yet everything seemed brighter
The winds that blew were no different
Yet they carried the fragrance of headiness
The waves that washed over our feet had touched millions
Yet they were special as they united our steps
Spring was around us as we stood upon the rocks
In the light of the setting sun
The cool spring air that ruffled your hair
As we walked back home
The spring that had come and gone for centuries before us
But had never seemed so close to heart

It was the spring of one year
That was destined to be so short-lived
The winds no longer brought with them your fragrance
The sun shone, but I could not see your face in its light
The waves still lapped at my feet, but now they walked alone
The sun set in the horizon, but there was only one person on the rocks
A spring, that would be followed by a winter endless

Springs, that came and went
Would come and go for time eternal
Springs, that brought with them new experiences
New people, new places
Springs, that would never again be so unique
Springs, that would never again be treasured
